Hi! My name is Lindsey. I am a 23 year old female from TN. I am a junior majoring in Early Childhood Education at MTSU. I would eventually like to become a first grade teacher. I am a part-time wheelchair user due to partial paralysis from a birth defect called Spina Bifida. Luckily I am able to walk, but only short distances. Over the past 10 years, I have been involved in several disabilty-related things. I was involved in a wheelchair sports program called A.B.L.E. (Athletes Building Life Experiences). Because of this program, I had many opportunities open up to me, that wouldn't have been available otherwise. I was part of the first-ever wheelchair cheerleading squad during the first 2 seasons of its' existence and held a position as a co-captain both seasons I was involved. I also attended Easter Seals camp in Mt. Juliet, TN as a camper during 2-3 sessions in the summers the first 6 years I was involved, and now I ocassionally volunteer for camp during the summer as a counselor. I also entered the Miss Wheelchair Tennessee pageant in 2000 and was fortunate enough to gain the title of Junior Miss Wheelchair Tennessee 2001. Also thanks to the A.B.L.E. program,I was introduced to the Tennessee Youth Leadership Forum in 2002. This is where they choose 20 disabled high school students across the state of Tennessee to come together and discuss and learn about different disability-related issues. In high school, I also had several opportunities to water-ski adaptively during the summers, as well as one opportunity to snow-ski in Winter Park, CO. Another disability-related thing I have gotten to experience is attending the National Spina Bifida Conference several times over the past 5-6 years. This is a great opportunity for people of all ages with Spina Bifida to network with each other and interact with people they can relate to and share stories with. Aside from my disability, I would consider myself a normal college student. In my free time, I love to sing. I also like to draw, write, play keyboard, do scrapbooking and just spend time with my family and friends. I have an amazing family and awesome group of friends. Without them, I don't know where would be, especially my mom. She has been there for me more than anyone else I know throughout my entire life. I have the most wonderful boyfriend in the world, Wes, and on Novermber 3, 2008, he proposed. I am looking forward to an amazing future with this man. I can't wait to see what is in store for us. He has been my strong rock for a over a year now and has become my best friend and the love of my life. Please visit my website often to see updates on me (especially pictures) and don't forget to sign the guestbook! |
