The 21st Century
Gene Krupa II Orchestra

The Gene Krupa II Orchestra

Legendary drummer Gene Krupa formed his own orchestra two months after leaving the Benny Goodman Orchestra in March of 1938. Gene opened on April 5th of 1938, at the Marine Ballroom in Atlantic City, NJ, and was an instant success from the start.
Over the next 14 years, the Krupa orchestra was featured in 15 major Hollywood motion pictures and recorded over 37 hit records. In 1952, Gene broke up his large band and reformed it into a great- sounding quartet. The quartet recorded 17 albums and was featured on many network television shows.
In 1959, Gene was once again called back to Hollywood to help make the "Gene Krupa Story" starring actor Sal Mineo. Gene's role in the movie was to record the entire soundtrack with the studio orchestra and also teach Sal Mineo all the Krupa flash and style portrayed in the motion picture.
The Gene Krupa II Orchestra is a tribute from Gene Krupa's nephew to honor the memory of his uncle. The orchestra is under the direction of drummer Roy Anderson and sax and clarinet player Dale DeMarco. Many of the original arrangements from the original Gene Krupa and his Orchestra band are featured, along with other big band arrangements from that era. We will be looking forward in seeing you.
