Our Palmer Library Media Center serves Kindergarten through 8th grades and has more than 13,000 circulating cataloged materials. Materials include: books, maps, media projectors, computers, videos, DVDs books on cassette, and more. We have comprehensive non-fiction and reference sections, as well as extensive fiction and easy-reader sections that contain ALL Newbery and Caldecott award-winning books ever published. We use an online computer catalog that is accessible in both the library and classrooms. We have firewall protected internet access on every computer. All 11 of our library computers are new as of Fall 2008. We are open every school day to every student. We offer a blend of scheduled 40 to 45 minute class times for K through 8th grades, with flexible media center hours for research. Flexible media center hours for all students are: Monday through Thursday: 7:50 am to 8:30 am Monday through Friday: 2:40 pm to 3:30 pm Any student coming before or after normal class hours must notify his/her parents and the media specialist in advance. During class time, students normally receive 30 minutes of instruction and reading, followed by 10 minutes of browsing and check out time. Teachers and students also may schedule research time with the media specialist as needed. Teachers and staff are welcome to the Library Media Center at anytime. Parents may access the Library Media Center between 8:00 and 3:30 whenever there are no classes in attendance. |
