ok, so this site isn't all about glam rock. but it does cover most glam rock topics: david bowie, pretty boys, music. according to Todd Haynes, the director and writer of Velvet Goldmine, "glam rock was the product of the last truly progressive decade we've seen in the West- a climate of great possibility and openness- that resulted in important social movements, amazing cinema, and some fantastic music. And because glam rock would change with style and wit, any leaning toward 'the natural' in society, drawing heavily as it did from underground gay culture". using that explanation, i find you cannot totally embody glam rock without using the media as your guide. amazing cinema i would define as a good story and beautiful art: moulin rouge. fantastic music is defined here as well, in the david bowie and music sections. pretty boys embody the glam rock spirit. two pretty boys are ewan mcgregor and christian bale, who also made appearances in velvet goldmine. robbie williams is what i would say the new icon of glam pop, as he is a pop star who doesn't really fit into the pop star mold. velvet goldmine is the tribute to the british glam rock era, while curt wild is the character who represents its appearance over the pond. not perfectly glam rock, however, this is my site and i can do whatever i want with it. :D to find out more about me, i think that's self-explanatory. -ri |
