MISSION - GLAM is a not-for-profit, volunteer-run group founded in 1993 as a support/social/activist group for self-identified queer Asians (gay, lesbian, bisexual, trans-identified, and intersex) living in Montreal. Our mission is to help queer Asians in Montreal understand and deal with their sexuality by providing them with a safe, comfortable, and empathetic environment in which they can make new friends, share personal experiences, and feel that they are part of a community.

Queer Asians, whether or not they are born in Canada, struggle with unique problems, including the collision of our heritage cultures with those of Euro-North American society. Responsibility to the family also often restricts them from leading full lives. Furthermore, many particular needs of queer Asians are not being met by either the queer or Asian communities. As members of GLAM, we tackle these issues on our own for our own betterment and for that of our peers.

MEMBERSHIP - Anyone who identifies him or herself as an queer Asian can become a member of GLAM, "Asian" including those whose origins are East (Chinese, Japanese, Korean, etc.), Southeast (Cambodian, Filipino, Vietnamese, Malaysian, etc.), South (India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, etc.), Central (Mongolian, Afghan, Tajikistanian, etc), and West (Arab, Iranian, Turkish, etc) Asian. Those with Pacific Islander roots (Hawai'ian, Maori, Samoan, etc.) are also welcome. [Note: While non-Asian partners of queer Asians are always welcome, GLAM is not a dating service, and those wishing to meet Asians specifically for this purpose are advised to seek other organizations to do so.]

EVENTS - Events we have held in the past include cooking contests, bowling nights, safe sex workshops, and vaccination "parties". We generally try to hold a social gathering at least once a month. We also participate in Divers/Cité every year at Community Day and in the parade. We welcome any suggestions for new events and activities from our members.

SUPPORT - GLAM offers support to all Asians coming to terms with their sexuality. We are a venue through which queer Asians can meet each other and help each other deal with a variety of issues specific to our community. We are also here if you just need someone to talk to and listen. E-mail us if you would like to set up a meeting.
