Club Honours

For a small club, Phoenix can take more than its share of pride in the number of trophies our members have won. In recent years we have had members focussing on the Armati and Principles of War rules, and we have had a good record in awards for best table at various shows.

In fact, Phoenix members excelled with display games in the late 90s, so much so that, rather like Brazil at football, we have been allowed to keep the Kirriemuir "best table" award for winning in 1998, 1999 and 2000 with display games covering Rameses victory at Quadesh, Hannibals victory at Cannae, and Charles VIII defeat at Fornovoro (in 6mm scale!)

Other displays of note have included Cannae, Rorke's Drift in 47mm scale, and the battle of Khartoum which we put on at the Edinburgh show

In recent years a few individual winners at the British Open Wargames Championships have begun to emerge. At Loughborough 2002 we set a standard which will prove hard to top. Graham Bryson won the 15mm 19th Century 'Principles of War' competition at Colours in Reading in September 2002, and Mike Lillie won the 15mm Armati Ancients competition. Craig Tannock came 5th, and Ian Kerr 9th in the Armati 15mm as well.

2001 saw Craig come 2nd in 15mm Armati, and Mike 3rd. Graham Bryson came 4th in PoW 19th century whilst also picking up the 'Sportsmanship in modern periods' "Crusaders Sword"

Graham has previously been 6th in 2000, 4th in 1999,and 3rd in 1998 again in the Principles of War competition.

Loughborough also saw Craig unveiling the now infamous "Tannocks Tertio" which defies description, and is surely unparalleled in wargaming circles! For those adventurous enough to attempt this manoeuvre at home, its tactical effect is to turn 2 light commands into 4, at the loss of all your initiative points and a skirmish javelin unit. Detailed descriptions are available upon request, although we think it is only fair to warn you that it didn't work!

Give them a round of applause
