Regarding A Position with Jean Gleason

First, we want to thank your for your interest and let you know that we’ve got a great
set-up - we’ve been doing this on a private basis since 1993. We have a good group
of ladies with us – they’re helpful and patient. And Jean is a real “people” person!

Most of the time, you’ll be busy and it is a fun and interesting busy. After a few months,
once you’ve started to know Jean and her routines, it ends up being a nice, steady,
interesting experience. For the first few months though, you’ll need to work hard on
getting use to things – this is why we want to point out the “criteria” below – we want
you to know how things will be so you can make an informed and well thought out
decision should we offer you a job.

It is quite an emotional hardship on Jean to get use to new people only to have them leave shortly after they start – and it leaves us in a huge scheduling bind too. So PLEASE don’t blindly do anything and everything just to “get the job” – make sure you are TRULY ready, willing and able to commit and that you truly believe you can succeed in meeting our expectations on the job if one is offered.

You Must have Patience

Jean can’t talk very well so it is hard for her to get things across sometimes and she can get frustrated and upset – you have to be able to deal with it – she is brain injured (you might tend to forget that fact sometimes as she is usually so friendly and nice and pretty much on the ball). Sometimes you just have to keep her safe (stand-by/assist per Doctor’s orders) and let her cool off as time passes. You’ll develop a knack for helping her avoid getting upset or at least helping her get over it quick – but to be able to get to that point, you’ll have to be around long enough to get to know her. The ladies and I will help you develop these abilities too!

You Must be Compliant

We want you to follow how we want things done. Sometimes it is harder to do things the way we want them done. Sometimes it may be tempting to take the easy way out and make some excuse – but we won’t accept that.

You Must be Flexible

This is a one-on-one job; there’s not a group of people on each shift to take up slack – just you. Therefore this job dictates that we hire people who are in a position to be flexible and who are willing to be flexible. You see, if someone doesn’t come in to relieve you, you’ll be staying and will need to work on getting someone else to come in – you can’t just page me to come in (except in TRUE EMERGENCIES). If you must be out for some reason, you’ll need to coordinate with the other ladies to have them help cover your shifts (including vacations). In this job, coverage is your responsibility – it is part of accepting a job with us and getting paid. If this sounds unreasonable, unacceptable, or unbelievable to you, that’s ok, you’re just not cut out for this job, so be sure not to accept a job offer if you get one because it won’t work out. Some people work in this type of arrangement better than others. No hard feelings – it is better for all involved to know this up front so no one wastes any time!

OK, with all the above being said, remember, while it will take some effort at the beginning to be patient and become familiar with things, it really smoothes out into a nice routine with a nice group of people. We still have people that have been on board with us since 1993 (when it was MUCH MUCH harder) !!
