The Gay Personality

(Granger): The purpose of life is to develop a personality as an individual of unique being within itself. Added to that, the higher purpose from above is for the High-soul to develop, explore, and become a unique being within itself. Each personality of a High-soul contributes, in its own unique way, to the soul's development. The accumulated awareness from all of a soul's personalities is not the sum total of the soul's knowledge, but it does contribute. Each personality makes his or her contribution.

A word here about the "his" and "her" aspects of personality. The High-soul is a balance of male and female elements within itself; each soul is in balance within itself. As it develops personalities it will add both male and female elements. A word of clarification is in order at this point. The soul does not give direction to the personality in so far as male and female aspects of development are concerned. If a personality should develop along lines you refer to on earth as "being gay" that would be no disaster for the High-soul. The gay personality is as acceptable to the soul as any other. That is not to say the gay personality may not have some problems on its own, as a person on earth, or even as a person after death. The situation prevails after death; the person will retain the same characteristics he or she developed on earth. However, the most difficult time is in the earth life; it is not a natural state. Now we did not say it is not normal; we emphasize the word "natural". But it is not an insurmountable problem if the person works out his or her own course of development and interests. Sex is not the be-all or end-all of consciousness. It is, of course, a very important factor in life ...very difficult to keep the human race moving along without it. We want to emphasize, however, that any individual may choose channels of development along which he or she may make very great contributions to the soul without being involved in the process of creating more people on the earth.

We need to back up river a little; let us go to the source. We need to straighten out a problem in the mind of our writer. He has all sorts of problems, but this one relates to the material at hand. He wonders if a personality, before entering the physical body is primarily male or female and if so, what happens if a female personality enters a male body at time of birth, or vice versa. And if they don't get mixed up, who is the one who keeps them sorted out?

Each personality is created with a balance of anima and animus in its nature. It contains the two halves of nature, male and female aspects of personality. At the time of physical birth, as the personality enters a physical body, which is obviously male or female, the corresponding traits of male or female, coming out of the personality, will develop the lead role. If the body chosen for the physical life is male, the animus will develop the lead role, but the anima will provide a supporting role. And the opposite holds true if the physical body chosen is female; the anima will take the lead role with a supporting role from the animus, or male aspect.

It is very necessary to understand the need for the opposite sex from that chosen in physical terms, to play the supporting role in the personality. Otherwise a male personality could not comprehend the nature of a female, and the female personality could not comprehend a male aspect of personality. In the physical dimension of life we may get into the "problem" where, in a physical male body, the female personality comes on too strong and takes over the lead role or, on the other hand, the female body is directed in the lead role from the animus or male aspect of the personality. We need to understand certain criteria about the person, male or female, known as Gay [or Lesbian]. This person did not choose to develop as a "switched-over" sex role any more than he or she chose to have brown eyes or blond hair, or to be six feet tall. In this situation this is the way the dice rolled. For others it is sometimes unfortunate to be born into a deformed body, or sometimes, depending on the social requirements of the day and the society, to be born out of wedlock, or even to be born into the "wrong" colour of parents in a given community. Life in the physical earth is no bed of roses for many people for various reasons. And there are, unfortunately, those who will do their best to make it worse for anyone they can.

In terms of the high spirits who control the entry of the personality into a selected body, the fit may be quite satisfactory. In physical terms, however, the choice may be unfortunate. In this age, Aquarius or whatever you wish to call it, the roles of the male and female in terms of "soul-experience" are not clear. Anyone, male or female, can play any role in society and gain the experience needed in terms of the life-pattern given. This blending of roles in terms of social functions will continue until, shortly, any difference will disappear. The personality per se, remember, contains the capability of developing along the lines of either a male or female. It is more desirable, however, to develop the personality along the role lines of the sex of the physical body.

Now then, should I find myself in the difficult situation where I have a personality that has chosen the opposite lead role to that of the sex of the physical body in which I happen to find myself, what can I do to develop a more easily worked out role in the physical earth life? Very often had parents, or someone else, noticed the tendencies in very early childhood and used professional guidance, the role may have been changed at that early time and developed in harmony with the sex of the body as given.

I have to live out what I want to be a successful lifetime in the earth. My definition of "successful" is that I want to develop to my full potential, the planned and assigned objectives and goals of my life pattern. I would like to develop along these lines in harmony, or in reasonable harmony, with the social, economic and political environment in which I find myself. What do I do? First of all I need to understand within my own inner mind that I am not some outcast of God-consciousness. I am not a misfit in the patterns of higher consciousness ...whatever I may or may not be in the minds of my peers. Having sorted that out, I next need to understand the dual nature, the two halves of all conscious life, the anima and the animus, located in the very essence of all being. Disregarding my social status for the moment, my problem is that I have an inner personality (the real I-AM of my being) who has chosen one leading role while I have been located in a physical body of the opposite sex. That is the essence, the sum and substance of my situation. Now I need to look inside at the source of my being, at the very will and the mind and the person of my inner being.

At this inner level I am animus and I am anima. I am, or I include in total essence, both halves of the oneness of a complete being. Assuming that I want to do so, the question is can I change the lead role of my life in harmony with the given life-purpose of my being? The chances are that I can do this very well if I make the decision at the level of deep inner consciousness (subconscious if you will), at the inner core of the will of the inner mind ...the deep inner personality. Again, assuming that I want to make the change in roles, I want to make the change out of the free-will of my mind, two things I need, possible a third. The third possible need, we will clear up first. I must get rid of inner feelings of guilt. Understand that guilt is a devastating emotion that creates havoc in the inner-mind. I have not gone out to create the situation I am in, therefore, I have no reason to harbour guilt. If I choose to remain in this role, I have no need to burden myself with guilt either. It is simply our opinion (The Starters) that a more pleasant, easier, and all-around beneficial life may be possible if I choose to change my role into one where the physical body and the personality are in harmony.

I need to understand as clearly as possible the nature and purpose of my life in the physical earth. What is my reason for being in this life? This may seem like an impossible task but it is not nearly so difficult as it may seem at first. A well developed, reliable aptitude test will give a very good indication of the direction of my Soul-desired objectives in this lifetime. Or with the aid of some guidance books, I may simply walk myself through to a clear understanding. I may use the counsel of a psychiatrist, or a professional psychologist may assist my search. Even a few evenings of thinking through and note making with a wise friend may help to get the insight I need in my own life. Once the effort is made on the part of my own personal will, once I begin the activity, once the action is set in motion, I may rest assured that the High-soul will open the channels to understanding.

I need to redirect the right of my freedom to choose the way I will pattern the pathway to achieve these goals of this life as I now understand them to be. I need to open a channel into my deep mind and will of the personality. The personality, that deep inner mind, will respond to the desire and the sincere choice of the free mind so long as it is in harmony with the will of the soul's assignment. Remember here that we are in good company. Those of the high spirit who assign personalities to a physical body of a fetus, chose this physical body, with its given sex, in full awareness of this soul's purpose. This choice was made, but for some reason it was not followed by the inner mind of the personality. The reason we do not know, but the personality may have compromised simply because of some condition of the social environment to which the child was presented. A thought-out and sincere redirection of the life style may be all that is necessary to redirect the thrust of my life.

We of The Starters Group are of the opinion that much help and benefit could be given out of the development of an association of those who seek to change the lead role of the animus or the anima resulting in a change of sexual orientation of the individual who desires to make the change. Any such association should be freely open to those who desire to seek help. Only those of professional standing and skill should be allowed to guide the redirecting of the inner mind, on the choice of the individual. But others of like mind, who are willing to walk beside those seeking help may assist and give reassurance here. We will consider that we have completed our answer to this question.
