The article reads: "Pfc. Charles DeGlopper, son of Charles N. DeGlopper of Baseline Road and the late Mary Neiland DeGlopper, a member of the glider infantry unit, was killed in action, June 9, 1944 in France.
"Pfc. DeGlopper, 22, was born on Grand Island, November 30, 1921. He attended grade school here and upon graduation, entered the Tonawanda High School where he was graduated in 1941. Inducted into the Army in November of 1942, he received his training at Camp Croft, S.C. and went overseas in April, 1943. As a member of the 325th glider outfit, he saw action in Africa and Italy, after which he had a rest in Ireland and England.
"His last letter to his family was written on "D" Day, June 6th and in it he mentioned that he was getting ready to leave for "somewhere", the "somewhere" being France.
"Besides his father, Pfc. DeGlopper is survived by a brother John L. DeGlopper and a sister Mrs. Wm. Bell, both of Grand Island.
"Memorial services were held at the Trinity Evangelical Church in Whitehaven Rd., Sunday, July 16, 1944 at 3:00 p.m."
