This show was an absolute a blast! Totally off the chain! It was the shizzle AND the dizzle. Yeah boyeee! Yet again we played the Town Pump - our home base - in Yuba City. This time we were with two local Yuba Bands - starting with Imperial Youth as openers. (Lots of My Cousin Vinny Jokes ensued: "Imperial Youtes? Did you say 'Youte'? What the heck is a Youte?"). The band themselves were pretty cool - kinda old school rock. They did a cover of "Sweetleaf", and had a fairly bluesy, retro sound. The kind that would go ever well at Old Ironsides in Sacramento, they definitely had the 60's & 70's vibe going on. Nice set guys.
Nice... that's a winning and businesslike sales pitch. Let me think
it over, ok? Maybe it'll sound better when we're both sober. Woohoo - ROCK and ROLL!! Really it was just a bunch of pushing and shoving, no big deal. No cops. One minor nosebleed. Security handled it well. The headliner, Blatant Disregard was on-stage by that time and these guys were pretty brutal - a bit of Incubus/Deicide/Deftones mish-mash but somehow done without being derivative. Interesting. They mixed up their set with a percussion interlude in the middle with a set of bongos. Very moody, atmospheric and Sepultura-esque. We'd seen them earlier in the day when they performed outdoors at Sound Attitude Records just by Hwy 99. They're a pretty awesome band, I'm almost surprised their aren't HUGE all over the state because they're way better -in their own way- than bands like the Council. And I like the Council, so take that for what it's worth.
And then came the afterparty at our rehearsal pad - and things got really nuts. All the guys from both Imperial Youth and Blatant Disregard stopped by. Even ex-strippers started showing up and trying to show off their moves - some not too successfully. Yet again. nIiiCe.... and painful. One poor gal injured her knee in the process. Guess what people - too much alcohol makes you STUPID - just thought you aughta know. Sometimes I forget too, but it's usually pretty fun even if it is pretty silly - but hopefully not too painful or permanent. The idea is to have a good time, not injure yourself - Dig? By 4am there were still about 50 people at the post-show party. A few people were even "making out" while others falling out everywhere in our rehearsal space in Yuba. I remember seeing the sky turning bright purple, and somebody nearly passed out on the lawn. "Leave me alone - don't try to move me - I'll lay here if I want to..." Ok, dude - nevermind. An hour later that same guy was up and spry while I was comatose. ("Hey
- somebody put out that flashlight - it burns - oh shit that's the SUN!")
Seems the coolness of the grass sobered him up - apparently he knew what
he was doing - while I knew nothing. I had done our entire set sober (which by this point had been the night before) because I can't drink and sing my best - it messes up my voice - but because of the afterparty, I didn't sober up until late Sunday afternoon. Now that's what I call a party!! As well as a hellava show. Thanks again to our friends Mianna, Dave and Brooke who took nearly 100 PICS, so that I don't come off looking like a braggart (ok, well I am a braggart - but only about the truth) when I say this show (and party - and what is a show if not a party?) went f*cking GREAT. Just check all the pics out and see for yourself. In the meantime - I gotta rest. Whooo. Cya. Vyan |
