Chapter Eight

‘That is pathetic’ Hitomi murmured, she lay back into the pillows on her bed.
‘My onee-san believes her’ Ami explained. She sat down opposite Hitomi at the desk.
‘That’s cause Rika-san doesn’t know Misaki’ Hitomi sighed. ‘If she did…’
‘Poor Misaki. She’s like a little pawn. Still I don’t know how Ryoko thinks this is going to help her’ Ami agreed.

There was a knock at the door, it opened a bit and Megumi poked her head into the room. Ami and Hitomi gave her blank looks.
‘Konbanwa cheery heads’ she smiled pushing her circular glasses up the bridge of her nose. ‘What’s up? Anything I can help with?’
Hitomi turned to look at Ami, shrugged then returned to Megumi. Before she has a chance to reply Megumi spoke once more.
‘Gomen nasai’ she looked at the floor and twiddled her fingers. ‘It’s rude I know but I overheard’
Quietly Ami made two slow nodding movements of her head but Megumi continued.
‘I agree it doesn’t sound much like Misaki. Ryoko is what is wrong isn’t it?’ she addressed her sister.
‘Hai’ Hitomi replied solemnly.
Megumi stepped inside the room closing the door. Leaning upon the doorframe she once again adjusted the spectacles on her face. ‘But I digress…’ she began. Ami rolled her eyes comically at Hitomi at Megumi’s language only to be greeted by an icy glare from her friend. Megumi was unfazed by this
‘I know Rei-chan. She’s a member of my swimming club.’
‘So?’ Ami queried
‘There may be some plausibility to Ryoko’s story. Rei-chan is a feisty thing. She is on the whole a very very genki girl but she is also fiercely loyal and I have seen her hit at least one person before.’ She finished the story ‘I’m sorry’ Megumi bowed her head and quietly left.

Hitomi stood up watching out of her window with a grim expression.
‘Ryoko cannot be telling the truth’ Ami was saying. ‘Well not totally. Her having a ticket is crap but if Rei-chan is like this it could get nasty.’
Hitomi sighed deeply. ‘Us against a little world ne Ami-chan?’
Ami nodded ‘And all over a simple ticket. Pathetic.’
Hitomi knew Ami was right. It was so pathetic. Sadly pathetic. And not worth losing friends over.
‘You know’ she spoke after a period of thought ‘I’m almost half inclined to give her it’
Ami practically exploded in her response. ‘NANI!!!’ she shrieked ‘Well she’s not having mine and I’m not giving in!’
‘I don’t want any more trou…’ Hitomi attempted to explain
‘I don’t care. I’m not giving in’ Ami maintained. She had gotten to her feet and stood angrily with her fists balled in response to the suggestion.
Hitomi replied with a shrug.
‘What Ryoko is asking…sore wa yurusenai Hitomi. Ano…’ Ami began a rant. Hitomi had to agree. It was unforgiveable. She turned with one of her steely looks that always shut up an emotional Ainoura Ami.
‘Ami-chan’ she said gently but firmly. ‘You have been very emotional lately. Try and calm down without acting rash’
‘I’M rash!?!’ Ami cried in disbelief.
‘Hai’ Hitomi nodded calmly. ‘But I will tell you what is more unforgive..’
A spritely voice from downstairs interrupted the girl. ‘Hitoooomi-chaaan’ Megumi called. ‘It’s Ainoura Rika here for Ami’
Ami’s eyes widened ‘I never called her’ she muttered. ‘Oh well’ she sighed in defeat and turned to leave Hitomi’s room. As she left she noticed a cd box out by the stereo.
‘Oh’ she murmured ‘That’s the new one by ‘Glay' ne?’
She reached over to inspect it ‘Is it any good’
‘Hai. I guess that’s what I find unforgiveable’
Ami looked up at Hitomi blinking in confusion at the random comment. ‘Eh?’
‘That is Ryoko ruins this, the band I have wanted to see for so long I can’t remember. If she gives me a bad memory of this..’
Shockingly Hitomi appeared on the verge of tears and startled the blonde as much as the genkiness when Hitomi revealed she had first bought the tickets.
‘Ja ne Hitomi-chan’ the blonde quickly left.
