A Final Fantasy 7 fanfiction by MoJo
It had been many months since the planet had been saved. Those known as AVALANCHE had been scattered through the winds of the planet. Here, a tale of how they were brought together once more in an effort to restore the balance to the planet.
Chapter Three
Heion walked around Vincent’s ‘home’ which felt more like a lair to her than anything else. She sighed, and walked over to an old bookcase, tracing her finger along the dusty archives. The room was moderately large and extremely dark, apart from the single stream of artificial light coming from a lamp on Vincent’s desk. Heion strolled across to the desk and sat down on the chair, she looked though a note pad and files piled on Vincent’s desk, ‘Hum…what’s this…
Professor Gast’s Video Archives
Retrieved from Shinra Lab Archives 09/04 0800hrs: Ifalna explains to Professor Gast Jenova’s true origins as the ‘Crisis from the Sky’, the demise of the Ancients/Cetra and the ‘Promised Land’.
I had hoped they would shed more light on several issues…but there are still pieces of the puzzle missing. These videos haven’t explain about the whereabouts of the missing JENOVA files…it will haunt me the rest of my days if they cannot be found. There is no evidence of them at the mansion nor at Shinra labs...where are the missing JENOVA files? What about the other subjects that Hojo experimented on? What happened to the rest of the JENOVA projects scientists...Lucrecia, why did this have to happen? Sephiroth...non of the catastrophes would have happened if Hojo hadn’t...but non of that matters now because its all over...but I need to understand...I need to know the answers to my questions and I will search until I find them….I need to know why.
Heion puzzled over the words written by Vincent. ‘JENOVA Project…Lucrecia???’ Heion stared intensely at the next word. ‘Sephiroth….’ Her eyes widened as though in the back of her mind she recognised some of what Vincent had written. ‘The Wutai War…I rem…’ suddenly Heion could hear a faint noise coming from the over side of the room. Heion tried to ignore the sound and continued to delve into Vincent’s research.

Heion was drawn to Sephiroth’s file, and began reading what had been written. ‘Missing in action…’ she fumbled over the words as she quickly scrolled down the page until she came to the last paragraph on Sephiroth’s file.
...Sephiroth, after the Wutai War was sent out on several non-military missions. One of which ended with the notorious 'Nibelheim Incident.' Sephiroth was to investigate reports of 'monsters' near Nibelheim, and was led to the Nibel Mako Reactor by Tifa Lockheart where Shinra believed the ‘monsters’ had originated. Sephiroth after being exposed to the Ancient, Jenova, (which was coincidentally being housed there due to an experiment headed by Professor Hojo), went insane, and later burnt down the village of Nibelheim. Reports by later investigations claim that he was drowned in the Mako in the reactor's core, but other reports claim that a mutinous soldier stabbed him. But all reports listed at that time said that there was no way that Sephiroth escaped the Nibel Reactor alive...
‘HEY SOMEONE PICK UP THE %^*($£& PHS! VINCENT I KNOW YOU’RE IN THERE! PICK UP DAMMIT!’ A loud voice rang out from the PHS messaging machine, which suddenly jolted Heion back from her trance induced state. She quickly pushed all the files back together and placed them back where they had previously been. Heion picked up the PHS and answered the foul-mouthed man’s called with equally vulgar language. ‘Hey, watch your fuckin’ mouth, Vincent’s busy at the moment so…’
‘WHO the *)(% are YOU! Get Vincent on the PHS now…wait a minute, you that girl Tifa was talking bout?’ The man’s voice suddenly became calmer.
‘Yes that would be me, my name is Heion, and who the hell are you?’
‘I’m Cid, now get Vincent on the PHS, pronto!’
‘Whatever…’ Heion swaggered over to Vincent’s door and knocked forcibly on the door.’ Hey Vincent… I’ve got Cid on the PHS I think he ‘desperately’ needs to talk to you…Vincent?’ Heion turned the handle, and cautiously stepped into Vincent’s room.
‘Where the hell is he Dammit! This is important!’ Heion put the PHS to her ear.
‘OK, calm down Cid, no need to get your knickers in a twist…’
‘What the hell! I don’t wea…’ Heion covered the PHS with her palm to drown out Cid’s voice as she crept further into Vincent’s domain.
‘Vincent?’ Heion called again, louder this time. She noticed some of Vincent clothes folded neatly on a chair next to his bed; she heard a faint noise coming from behind a closed door at the far end of the room. The sound became louder as she got closer to it; she began to feel heat coming from through the door; as smell of peach sapphire rose into the air. The sound became clearer as Heion but her ear to the door, the sound of trickling water, she stepped back from the door as to her horror, the handle on the door began to turn. The door opened, Heion stood in shock and blushed as she turned away; there standing in the doorway was Vincent, who was drying his face unaware, until their eyes met. Water moved silently over Vincent’s pale skin, the droplets sliding down his smooth firm chest. Heion tired not to give into her temptation to glance at Vincent once more, but continued to become even redder. Vincent looked at Heion, but did not blush as she, but took in a long deep breath and sighed
‘I’m sorry…’ Heion blushed again as she began to speak, ‘I didn’t mean to…umm, Cid is on the PHS…’ She stuck out her left hand, which held the PHS and tried not to look directly into Vincent’s gaze. He wrapped his wet towel around his waist and gently lifted the PHS from Heion’s hand, whom immediately turned around and left the room without a second glance.
‘Cid? Are you still there?’ Vincent inquired in a low monotone voice.
‘Finally, you managed to get your lazy ass to answer the PHS. Now we’ve got a fucking problem. Cloud and Tifa aren’t answering their PHS…’
‘…Is that really anything to be worried about? Even if they do run into trouble they will be able to take care of themselves…’ Vincent walked over to the door and peered through the crack, he saw Heion curled up and lying on the couch with her back to him, he carried on looking as he continued his conversation with Cid. ‘What else has given you cause for concern Cid?’
‘Well, Shera says there has been some disturbance near Midgar, a huge monster appeared from nowhere, in the same area where I last heard from them.’
‘…’ Vincent paused. ‘So do you think we should go and see if they are in any trouble?’
‘Yeh! That’s what I’m saying! I’ll meet you at sector 4 gates in an hour…and this girl you have with you…’
‘Yes…what about her? Vincent replied lowering his voice even further.
‘…Nothing really, just that you don’t often have visitors…’
‘…It was an emergency Cid, I shall explain when we arrive on the Highwind.’
‘OK god dammit! Over and out.’ With that Cid hung up his PHS, leaving Vincent with an uncomfortable silence. Vincent pulled on his black trousers and black shirt and walked out without a sound into the main room.
‘…We are meeting Cid at the sector 4 gates in approximately 1 hour, it seems that Tifa and Cloud may have run into some trouble…’ Vincent looked over to Heion who was still lying motionless on the couch. ‘…Heion, about just no…’
‘What happened to Sephiroth?’ Heion inquired in a lifeless tone, as if she already knew the answer. Vincent was startled by Heion’s sudden and unexpected question about the son of the woman still loved deep within his heart, the man that the whole planet had feared, the man he had helped kill.
‘…Wha…What?’ Vincent asked with uncertainty in his voice.
‘I said what happened to the general? You do know who I’m talking about, I read through your files, what happened to Sephiroth?’ She sat up and walked towards Vincent who was still a little shocked about the question Heion had just blurted out.
‘Sephiroth? Don’t you know…’ Vincent’s words trailed of as he could see Heion’s anger rising within her as she clenched her fists.
‘ I read he died; he drowned in the Nibelheim Mako Reactor …he wouldn’t just die that easily! You know something else don’t you? DON’T YOU!’ Heion began clasping her sides of her head. Vincent looked on astonished at the sudden change, attempted to construct a reply. ‘He did drown in the reactor…but he somehow survived in the life stream…he drew on the planets energy and called forth the ‘clones’, which did his biding…’ Heion’s eyes widened as Vincent continued to explain. ‘Once he had the black materia, he summoned Meteor, he tried to destroy the planet in an attempted to become a god…but’
‘Huh…so he did go mad…who was this JENOVA that did this to him?’
‘…Sephiroth found out that he was an result of an experiment…his ‘mother’
JENOVA was an alien being from another world, to begin with the scientists believed she was an Ancient, a Cetra …they implanted an unborn baby with its DNA…that unborn was Sephiroth.’
‘I kno…I mean I knew Sephiroth was…strong but I never knew…’ she said still with her hands either side of her head, as she avoided Vincent’s questioning glance.
‘…It wasn’t meant to turn out like this…not like this…’ Heion began rocking backwards and forwards in the chair. ‘…So, what happened then?’
‘Sephiroth had to be stopped…we, AVALANCHE put a stop to him…we had to fight him…but it was Cloud who dealt the final blow….’ Vincent paused and awaited Heion’s reaction.
‘So, that’s what happened to him…’ Heion began to slowly let go of her head and stood up. ‘…I suppose we had better get to sector 4 gates to meet Cid then…’ Heion emotionlessly headed towards the bolted door and waited for Vincent to finish getting dressed.
They made their way through the even now dark and polluted streets of Midgar; Vincent kept on his guard as Heion walked a few paces ahead of him mumbling something under her breath. Vincent had been displeased by the fact Heion had read his personal files and notes, but Heion’s reaction to Sephiroth and the circumstances surrounding him, had disturbed Vincent even more; at one point calling him ‘the general’ which possibly only members of SOLDIER would have done, and secondly she only appeared to be maybe the same age as Tifa or Cloud, and couldn’t have possibly known Sephiroth personally…
Vincent and Heion finally arrived at sector 4 gates, they stood silently for a while as Heion turned away from Vincent and leaned over a small crumbling wall.
‘How old are you Heion?’ Vincent enquired, and for one of the first times, he was the first person to break the silence…
‘Huh? Why do you want to know…I’m 21…’ As Heion began to answer the approaching Highwind’s engine drowned out her voice, as she looked up to see it majestically land on the rough and unstable ground. She then mumbled under her breath ‘the last time I remember being outside I was 21…’
