The online community is a fun place to be if you actually understand what you are doing. Our goal is to help you with the learning curve. Please feel free to print this out if you need a guide. Although we have done our best to accurately display information, we take no responsibility for changed or outdated information. This page was designed to help you figure your way through the process of getting started with the game.

To make the process logical we have outlined the steps in roughly the order that you would have to take if this were the first day..

  • Purchase a copy of Rainbow Six: We are self-rightous and 'liberating', 'burning' or whatever you call obtaining a copy of software through other means is not something that we publically support.

  • Install the game on your PC: Again, not a whirlwind thing, but know that if you are on a Microsoft Windows XP machine the installation of the game may involve getting administrative permission.
  • Here is a list of recommended computer specifications:

    • Minimum:
      Pentium 166 MHz 166, 16 MB RAM, Windows95/98, SVGA video card, SoundBlaster-compatible sound card, 4x CD-ROM drive, and 400 MB hard-disk space.
    • Recommended:
Pentium 233 MHz, 64 MB RAM, 3Dfx Voodoo graphics accelerator, and full-duplex sound card.
As you can see, if you computer is less than 2-3 years old, you shouldn't have much trouble with the game. Playing online is marginal over a 56k modem but can be done.

  • Play the game off-line: Practice, practice, practice...until you are comfortable with controls and can play the game without having to concentrate on playing the game. There isn't much fun in playing online when you are a novice player. Many online players (some of us included) need to get a life, and are very good at taking out novice players.

  • Talk to your families computer geek about online gaming: Okay, this one is for the parents...ANYTIME you go on the computer and meet, talk, play or otherwise interact with other humans there is always the chance that others represent themselves in ways that allow them to pray on unsuspecting people. Twelve year olds can really be a 36 yr old sicko who gets kicks online to do 'bad' things.

Whatever! The point is just talk to someone who knows and ask them what you should and shouldn't do. Enuff said.

  • Install the online gaming software: The game is hosed online by GAMESPY (see logo below, it is also a link to the site). To play you will need to register and download the software that is required to play. This will involve signing up or you cannot play. We recommend that you sign up for a new email just for gaming. You should avoid using your 'real' email address when you sign up for such things. This may allow others to track you personally and that is something that you should stay away from.
