The community development worker further develops social cohesion within the community. This is achieved through community development projects which residents of a variety of cultural backgrounds work together on mutually beneficial projects. This involves working with both long term residents and recent arrivals. The aim is to consult and engage residents in developing appropriate projects, and to implement statergies that will meet their needs. The worker also provides information, as well as referrals to the community. |

The FRIENDS Project
FRIENDS is a new community program which is designed to encourage supportive and friendly atmosphere in our neighbour hoods. This will be achieved by connecting people and promoting new friendship-like relationships in our local community
The program envisages a volunteer-member workign one to one basis with another resident --- a 'friend' member for a couple of hours a week. Friendly relationships between members will assist in developing support systems and social networks for many of isolated members in our community
Your 'friend' may need just a friend to talk to, or somebody to show him/her around, accompany him/her to a doctor or shops. Or a 'friend' may have a low self-esteem and needs some encouragement. A 'friend' may have low English language skills and wants to chat in English to improve it.
Granville Multicultural Community Centre in partnership with Holroyd Volunteer Link will provide an initial orientation program for volunteers to help them understand their role and also ongoing support.
To register and for more information ring Navid at Granville Multicultural Community Centre on 9637-7600 |
