Clinging To Jesus

"Love involves feelings and emotions; but it is much, much more than passionate feelings and emotions. Love is the free, voluntary, selfless, self-denying, self-sacrificing commitment and consecration of one person to the welfare of another. This love is both responsibility of all and the surest path to personal happiness." — Pastor Don Fortner

Wholesome Words

Jonathan Edwards Writes of Sarah Pierrepont

They say there is a young lady in [New Haven] who is beloved of that Great Being, who made and rules the world, and that there are certain seasons in which this Great Being, in some way or other invisible, comes to her and fills her mind with exceeding sweet delight, and that she hardly cares for any thing, except to meditate on him… She is of a wonderful sweetness, calmness and universal benevolence of mind: especially after this Great God has manifested himself to her mind. She will sometimes go about from place to place, singing sweetly: and seems to be always full of joy and pleasure: and no one knows foe what. She loves to be alone, walking in the fields and groves, and seems to have some one invisible always conversing with her….

OCCUPIED

Martha in the kitchen, serving with her hands;
Occupied for Jesus, with her pots and pans.
Loving Him, yet fevered, burdened to the brim,-
Careful, troubled Martha, occupied for him.

Mary on the footstool, eyes upon her lord;
Occupied with Jesus, drinking in his word.
This the one thing needful, all else strangely dim;
Loving, resting Mary, occupied with him.

So may we, like Mary, choose the better part;
Resting in his presence-hands and feet and heart,
Drinking in his wisdom, strengthened with his grace
Waiting for the summons, eyes upon his face

When it comes, we're ready, spirit, will, and nerve:
Mary's heart to worship, Martha's hands to serve;
This the rightful order, as our lamps we trim,-
Occupied with Jesus, then occupied for him!

Westminster Confession of Faith

Be certain the Bible is the word of God

How to be sure you are eternally secure1

How to be sure you're eternally secure part2

Sometime some ordinary day will come,
A busy day like this --
filled to the brim
With ordinary tasks -- perhaps so full
That we have little thought or care for Him.
And there will be no hint from silent skies,
No sign, no clash of cymbals, roll of drums;
And yet that ordinary day will be
The very day in which our Lord will come.

The Unchanging Word
Feelings come and feelings go,
And feelings are deceiving;
My warrant is the Word of God--
Naught else is worth believing.
Though all my heart should feel condemned
For want of some sweet token,
There is One greater than my heart
Whose Word cannot be broken.
I'll trust in God's unchanging Word
Till soul and body sever,
For, though all things shall pass away,
HIS WORD SHALL STAND FOREVER!
