24/01/02 - <Reencuentro de Slash, Izzy y Duff: Three Out Of Five Ain't Bad> En inglés [Ir arriba]
After decade apart, trio collaborate toward Stradlin solo LP.
It may not be a Guns N' Roses reunion per se, but it's the closest thing to having the original lineup back together again in quite some time — former GN'R guitarist Slash and bassist Duff McKagan are collaborating with fellow former Gunner Izzy Stradlin on his upcoming solo album.
It's not the first time that former GN'R mates have joined forces since leaving the group — McKagan played bass on Stradlin's last two solo albums, and Slash has jammed over the years with Stradlin — but the three haven't played together since the Use Your Illusion albums in 1991, when Stradlin left the band.
"The thing with Izzy's [solo] record," Slash said, "is that I got involved with him because we talk on the phone a lot, and he's just always doing these anonymous projects in his own quiet little fashion. It's just nice to get together and write again.
"We got together to work on songs, and they sound like Izzy, like Izzy and Slash, so they're easy to recognize that way," he continued. "They have a sense of humor about them, but they're loose and laid back. They're not heavy-duty, arrangement-oriented songs. They're just basic ideas that we thought were cool, so we threw it down."
Slash said that he wrote and recorded a total of five songs with Stradlin in November around the holidays, but the songs still require about a day's worth of "fixing," as well as background vocals. Meanwhile, McKagan said that he's laid down the bass tracks for an album's worth of songs in two different sessions in November and December at a studio in Los Angeles.
"Me and Slash are just the session guys, man," McKagan said, laughing. "I just went in and did bass tracks for the first three songs in an hour and kept at it."
As with his previous three solo albums, Stradlin penned the bulk of the material and performs lead vocals. The LP is currently untitled and there is no target release date other than late summer, with Internet sales being the main focus, according to his management and label, SFV Records.
Stradlin was unavailable for comment, as he is still in the studio working on the album. His camp did stress that since the record is unfinished, there's no telling what will make the final cut.
Still, Slash and McKagan are optimistic that the sessions will see the light and could perhaps lead to more. "I'd never rule out the idea of us three doing something with somebody singing," McKagan said. "That possibility is always there. Everything just sounds better than it ever has, but we'll see. We also realize that there's a bit of history involved, and no one wants to screw it up, not for nostalgic purposes. Only for artistic purposes.
"We wouldn't want to be that band in 'Rock Star,' or be silly," the bassist continued. "It's great to be able to afford to say that, that we're not doing this to make a bunch of dough, and we would only give back for the right purposes.
"We're just so intertwined," McKagan added. "It's not unlike a relationship with brothers. We've lived through a lot together, all through our 20s and early 30s. You know how a lot of people have college buddies? We're like that. We'll never not be friends. Music is a part of that, but it's beyond that. We're family."

12/01/02 - <La letra de Oh My God escrita por Axl> En inglés [Ir arriba]
It seems that there is a " competition " to see which is the gunner more lucky of the world. After the fan that got to talk with Axl Rose after the shows in Vegas, another fan got a paper of Hard Rock Hotel where was written the first verse of " Oh My God ". Until there everything well, but what makes that so special it is that who had written the verse it was nobody less than Axl Rose! Who gave the paper for the fan it was Del James.
The fan spoke that doesn't have immediate access to a scanner but that shortly will place a copy of the precious leaf in the internet. He said that it is everything written in black pen, except the number of the page and the word SQUEAL, and everything in letters capital letters. Here it is the exact transcription than Axl wrote in the paper:
(1
IT'S NOT YOU'RE THINKING
OR YOU'VE IMAGINED
TO LIVE IN THE SHADE
OF BELIEFS THAT WERE FASHIONED
TO LEAVE YOU IN SLAVERY
AND DRAIN OUT YOUR SOUL
BUT WHAT CAN I OF WHEN
THERE'S ONLY MANY LIARS
THAT CRAWL THROUGH YOUR VEINS
LIKE MILLIONS OF SPIDERS
THAT SEEK OUT THEIR VICTIMS
AND WHO IS THE WISER
WATCH OUT

In English:
After a lot of speculation and rumors, Slash confirmed that Snakepit doesn't exist plus, in interview to the magazine Classic Rock (that has Axl Rose in the layer this month). He said: " You cannot reinvent the beginning of Snakepit. It was a my small thing, and it was legal, to see all those faces almost making that that for the first time, but I was half that carrying everybody (in Snakepit) for all that ".
He also mentioned that will throw an album soil in the first semester of 2002, and that for the first time he felt ready to go in front and to do an alone album. This album will have more music similar to those than Slash records for another artists. Several styles and different things. Slash said that doesn't want permanent with a lot of baggage.
And plus, Slash confirmed that he/she worked with Izzy in the end of last year, but that they don't know what will do with the recordings. Izzy who sought Slash was and the music were also written by him.

08/01/02 - <Más noticias acerca del confrontamiento entre Axl y Slash> En inglés [Ir arriba]
Another reason has emerged for the continuing bad blood between Guns N' Roses frontman Axl Rose and former guitarist Slash.
Rose reportedly told a fan at one of the band's recent Las Vegas concerts, where Slash was turned away at the door, that he was angry at the guitarist for not "signing off" on a deal that would see a remake of the song "Welcome To the Jungle" used in the new Ridley Scott movie, Black Hawk Down.
The film's music supervisor, Kathy Nelson, confirmed to allstar that her company had been dealing unsuccessfully with Guns N' Roses' reps to include that song in the soundtrack, due out next Tuesday (Jan. 15), but she adds that she says she has no knowledge of the group's internal business.
"I found out that it's incredibly difficult to license Guns N' Roses songs," says Nelson. "We tried for the rights to the original masters, and then a re-recorded version. We came close, but it just wasn't going to happen."
Nelson adds that the movie is based on a true story and "Welcome To the Jungle" was the song playing during the real life incident, so the filmmakers were hoping to land the song for accuracy's sake. The track "Minstrel Boy" by Joe Strummer was used instead.
Sources close to the band confirm that at the best of times GN'R is notoriously reluctant to license their songs, and also note that the incident was not the first. Industry rumors of discontent circulated in 1999 over the use of "Sweet Child O' Mine" on the Big Daddy soundtrack. Rose reportedly promised the movie's producers that they could use a re-recorded version of the song, but met resistance from Slash and former bassist Duff McKagan.
The song, which "morphs" from the original into a new version with tracks added by the new band, ended up buried deep in the credits and not included on the album, amid threats of legal action. Another version recorded by Sheryl Crow, thought to have been a compromise, is also in the movie. Speculation says that this time around, the old members just wouldn't let it happen at all.
In other news, Slash has confirmed to a British publication that he did indeed disband his group, Slash's Snakepit. "You can't reinvent the start of Snakepit. That was my little thing, and it was a blast, seeing all those guys kind of doing it for the first time, but I was kind of carrying everybody through that," Slash reportedly told Classic Rock magazine, adding that he would be doing a Slash solo album in the near future.
The guitarist is currently without management or a label and was unavailable for comment. (Sorelle Saidman)

GN'R was listed as #43 in Spin Magazine's 50 greatest bands of all time:
"While Axl Rose Stews in his Malibu juices, its best remember when Guns preened supreme as world-baiting, coke-corrupted, glam-punk-metal heroes. Nobody ever looked more rock-foxy playing guitar than Slash (sometimes overshadowing his solos); and even though the power ballads are fabulous, heartfelt, beautiful, hilarious, etc., it's those fucked-beyond-belief rockers ("Paradise City", "Welcome To The Jungle") that raised the hair on your skinny, tatooed arms.

05/01/02 - <Slash y el incidente de Las Vegas> En inglés [Ir arriba]
Slash was unaware that the media had covered the Vegas incident so thoroughly. He had asked to be admitted quietly, after a song or two was completed, taken to a table and that's it.
More than one person at the Hard Rock Hotel had tried to help out. But as soon as Doug Goldstein (GN'R's manager) got wind of Slash wanting to attend, the announcement came that all former GN'R members would be denied admission. Anyone helping them see the show would be fired by Hard Rock.
In the January 2002 issue of Classic Rock, Slash confirms the fact that Snakepit is over. Slash will be doing a solo album with different styles of music.
In the same magazine there's a story about a Genesis album sleeve designed by Paul Whitehead. The article says:
'Whitehead
is currently involved in a number of projects, including the intriguing
possibility of creating the sleeve design for Guns N' Roses' long awaited and
much-anticipated 'Chinese Democracy' album.
"I met just last week with [producer] Roy Thomas-Baker, so hopefully i'll
be meeting again with Roy and Axl and it all gets tied up" he says'.
05/01/02 - <Me sentía curioso, dijo Slash, después de haber sido echado del concierto de Las Vegas> En inglés [Ir arriba]
Band's former guitarist was kept from attending concert at Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
Las Vegas wasn't paradise city for Slash when he tried to check out Guns N' Roses at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino late last month. It seems the band's former guitarist wasn't welcome to the jungle.
Slash, who quit the group in 1996 and later formed Slash's Snakepit, said he was in Vegas on vacation when he learned that GN'R would be playing there in two weeks' time, on New Year's Eve and two days before. He said he made some calls and got on the guest list for the December 29 show via the venue and the promoter.
"I've never actually seen Guns N' Roses from that perspective," he said, "and I was curious. And I wanted to go in a supportive capacity as well. ... I was trying to be discreet about it, but apparently Guns N' Roses' management found out and it was major pandemonium. It was like they sent out an all-points bulletin."
Slash said a representative from the band's management company, along with hotel security officers, came to his room and told him to stay away from the show, "to spare me the embarrassment of being turned away at the door."
He said he tried to assure them that he had no ill intentions, but to no avail. The prevailing concern, they relayed, was that his attendance might "freak Axl [Rose] out," and he was told that no former members of the band would be admitted. Slash offered to enter the show late and leave early, sitting in the back where he wouldn't be noticed, he said, but they refused.
"I even found a security guard who said he would sneak me in, but the promoter found out about that and nixed that. Basically, if they found me inside, they said, someone would get fired."
At that point he realized it was pointless to try to attend the show, he said, so he gave up and to went to another casino for the night. The evening wasn't a total loss, though — Slash ran into GN'R crew members who were old friends and partied with them after the show, he said.
"Really, I just wanted to go to the show, not cause a scene. If I had wanted to cause a scene," Slash said, "I could have called the head of security on my cell phone and said I was in the middle of the venue and to come and get me, just to f--- with him. I even thought about doing that, but that's just my mischievous side. It shouldn't have been a big deal. And if, even after all this time, if Axl had wanted to do a song, any number of our old GN'R songs, it would have been way cool."
A hotel spokesperson, who noted that Slash did not have a ticket to the sold-out show, said the venue had no record of any security personnel having any interaction with the guitarist and therefore she could not confirm nor deny Slash's account. "If a patron has a ticket or credentials, then we allow admittance," she said. "If they do not have a ticket or credentials, then we don't allow admittance."
Guns N’ Roses’ manager, Doug Goldstein, did not return calls for comment, but he told the Los Angeles Times: "We didn’t know what his intentions were. If nothing else, it would have been a distraction. Axl was really nervous about these shows. We decided on our own not to take any risk."
02/01/02 - <Los Guns N' Roses vuelven> En inglés [Ir arriba]
GUNS
N' ROSES have played their first gigs in almost a year as part of their
faltering comeback.
The rock legends performed at the Joint in Las Vegas' Hard Rock Cafe on Saturday
(December 29) and Sunday (December 30).
The gigs, which followed the sudden cancellation of a European tour earlier this year, did not proceed without problems. Ex-guitarist Slash was reportedly refused entry to the December 30 show, with a security guard telling reporters that frontman Axl Rose had barred the former band member. Rose is now the only remaining member of the group's successful line-up of the early 90s.
Meanwhile, tickets for the 1,400-capacity shows did not sell out until the night of the gigs. The only celebrities in attendance were producer Rick Rubin and porn actor Ron Jeremy with some of his female co-stars. Guns N' Roses played for around two hours each night and there were no encores. The set list was a disappointment for fans wanting to hear the band debut new material, as it was largely the same as their set at last year's Rock In Rio festival and the initial comeback gig in Las Vegas on New Year's Eve in 2000.
Rose walked off stage on a number of occasions because of trouble with his mic and he also subjected the audience to a tirade about the problems the band had faced. The singer also revealed that he had no idea Guns N' Roses were supposed to play a European tour. According to fans, he told the audience: "One day I was sitting at home on the internet and I found out that the tour was cancelled and I had no idea that I had a tour."
Fans also said that a film crew was shooting at the shows, suggesting that it may be used for a future video/DVD release. An animated film at the start of each show also revealed a new logo for the band name.
Rose is understood to be continuing work on the long delayed 'Chinese Democracy' album.
01/01/02 - <Slash negado> En inglés [Ir arriba]
L A S V E G A S, Dec. 31 - Guns N' Roses made a rare concert appearance, but former member Slash wasn't allowed to see it.
Sunday
night's sold-out show at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino was only the second U.S.
gig that Guns have performed in eight years. Former guitarist Slash was in town
for the show, but was turned away at the door.
Speaking briefly with ABCNEWS Radio, Slash said he tried to get in, but
couldn't. A security guard confirmed his account, blaming band frontman Axl Rose
for the exclusion.
Rose, the only member remaining from the group's classic Appetite For Destruction lineup, reportedly told the venue he would walk offstage if he saw any of his former bandmates in the audience.
European Tour? What European Tour?
Most of those who made it into the venue, however, seemed pleased with the show, despite technical difficulties that appeared to aggravate Rose.
"I couldn't really hear Axl's voice," one fan said. "But you know what? I've been waiting to See Guns N' Roses my whole life, so it was good times."
According to those who saw it, the band kicked off the set with "Welcome to The Jungle." Axl dressed in a Rich Gannon Oakland Raiders jersey and performed new material as well as classic Guns songs.
"It's not the old lineup," another fan said. "I mean, the guys weren't into it … It just wasn't Slash."
Rose spoke directly to the crowd about the technical problems as well as the band's twice-aborted European tour, and their new lineup.
Rose blamed unresolved legal issues for the fact that he no longer performs with former members of the group and said he had never committed to play the much-publicized European tour, which was postponed this summer, rescheduled, and then canceled. In fact, he told the crowd that he learned about it on the Internet.
