THE RUG:
wasn't really paying a great deal of attention, so i guess that's kind of an indication of what they were like. we spent most of their set listening for what the keyboard player was doing :)
not alot, really. they weren't that flash. not bad, but not that flash. from a first kind of half listen they were kind of - heavy rock probably isn't the right word, but there was definately a big guitar presence.
THE MARTINS:
this was the martins CD launch and farewell gig all in one. it was also the first time i'd heard them. Which is a pity, because they were bloody good!!
in keeping with the party atmosphere, i guess will be their excuse, the band all appeared in pyjamas, except drummer jim who wore a nighty. good look there, jim!!
the songs are very listenable - kind of rock with touches of pop/rock. the music certainly had crowded house and whitlams touches, amongst others. their keyboard player was a lot better, :) and jim's drumming was pretty impressive, too
the music has a lot of energy, the sort you can't sit still to. quite good. i like them.
not much else to report except to say that i didn't see jim to get my CD signed :( so that's going to be on the agenda next time i see him :)
no idea about set lists, sorry, although the martins did play most if not all the songs off their debut EP.
which is good. the EP. and the fact that they played all the songs.
