PALLADIUM:

palladium came on just after half past. Never heard of them before, thought being a first support they'd be shit. They weren't. I was very impressed with the first song, remained impressed through the second, and each new song I was waiting for a just-average song which never came. They were bloody good. Guitar rock, nice harmonies. The drummer was a bit nice, too :)

if you get a chance to see palladium, go see them. you won't be dissapointed. well, unless you don't like guitar rock...

unfortunately, despite their being so good, support band syndrome meant most of the punters were lining the back wall.

got a setlist at the end of their set, as you can see at the bottom, but i'm not entirely convinced that it is actually a setlist from this show? i heard them intro a few songs that aren't listed on the list, and i don't recognise any of the names listed... but i'll give them the benefit of the doubt and put it up anyway :)

ESKIMOE JOE:

Eskimoe joe were pretty appalling. Apart from the three J songs, sweater, turn up the stereo and ruby Wednesday, the songs were very dodgy. As for the humour - i'd been warned just before they came on that they were a band that tried to be gimmicky without carrying it off, and he was right. They attempted blink 182 humour between songs and it just seemed very out of place and a little forced.

SUPERJESUS:

Superjesus had the obligatory soundcheck followed by three hour break... The mix wasn't as good for them as it had been for palladium, it had been pumped up a little and was slightly blurry around the edges, which was a shame. Still, they were good. They played 5 songs off jet age and 5 or 6 off sumo. They only played a 50 minute main set. Despite me not owning jet age, there were only two songs I didn't know.

Sarah's a very down to earth frontman (or frontgirl), in fact she's so natural it's quite amusing to watch :) example: She was very excited to see the crowd getting so into it, considering it was so hot in the room. She said it's really hard to play to a crowd that isn't very receptive, "especially when you're all pumped. [pause, no crowd reaction] you get what I mean? [nothing] [pleadingly:] do you get what I mean????"

she said we were the first leg of the tour (t-shirts reckon they've played five gigs in the last week) and that they'd been on holiday for the last little while, so had lost a bit of their match fitness, hence the puffing and panting between songs. "But don't worry, we're not going to collapse on stage or anything..."

i couldn't see much of what was happening, being so short and all, but because of the nice shape of the venue a gap opened up right near the front but not near the moshpit towards the end, just in time for the encore.

encore started with a really beautiful song off jet age. the really beautiful song started with really beautiful solo lead guitar played by the obviously talented "new guy" as i called him... (tim, that'd be.)

overall i was highly impressed with palladium, highly unimpressed with eskimoe joe, and i think it's fair to say that the superjesus lived up to my expectations and then some. was a good gig ... if you take out the middle bit :)
