Born Frances Jane Crosby in Putnam County, New York, scarcely more than six months of age she lost her site due to an incompetent doctor. Through her faith in God she lived 95 years filled with joy and contentment. She made this statement about her blindness: "I seemed by the blessed providence of God that I should be blind all my life, and I thank him for the dispensation . If a perfect earthly sight were offered to me tomorrow I would not accept it. I might not have sung hymns to praise God if i had been distracted by the beautiful and interesting things about me."
In her 95 years she wrote over 8000 hymns to praise God.
