KANSAS

Our next stop was Kansas, the shortest section of 66, with only 13.2 miles.   It was still pretty interesting though.   This was the only place on 66 that we still found the 66 emblem painted on the road, although I'm sure it's in other areas as well.   Our first stop was in Galena, Kansas.   In Kansas they still have the highway signs for old 66 prominently displayed as pictured below.    We also stopped at the Old  Riverton Store.   It is basically an old country store as well as a tourist gift shop.  The owner is very friendly and talked about 66 with us for quite some time.  Just outside the town is the Rainbow Curve Bridge.   It is an arched bridge and a Route 66 original.   There is a new bridge next to it on the main road, so it makes it nice that you can turn off the main road and park right on the bridge.   We took a few pictures and looked around before heading out.   The bridge was covered in graffiti at the time, but I have seen some recent pictures of the bridge and it has been repainted.

To the left is just a picture of another Kansas road sign.   Along with the old 66 signs, Kansas has designated the old Route 66 as Kansas 66 still retaining the 66 heritage.
