Materials: One 3 ounce skein of four ply, worsted weight yarn will make a small to medium sized hat when using a size 'J' aluminum crochet hook.

Stitches used:

ch - chain
slst - slip stitch
sc - single crochet

1 - Chain 30, turn, and sc in each ch except for the last three. Slst in the last three ch.

2 - Ch 1 and turn work. Slst in each of next three slsts, then sc in each sc of first row.

3 - Ch 1 and turn. Sc in each sc of row. Leave the three slsts unworked.

4 - Ch 1 and turn. Sc in each sc of row.

5 - Ch 1 and turn. Sc in each sc, and slst in each of the three slsts of row 2.

Repeat rows 2 through 5 until the hat is large enough to reach around the head. Once this is achieved, slst the edges together, gather the top (the edge with the slsts) and fasten off.
