Hatching can take up to eight weeks in warm weather.
Secondly you will need a container. I like to use a jar with a screen or cloth on top. Hang the egg case at least 3 inches high,(use thread or wire) so that when the young emerge they will have enough room to drop down and dry off. I put green felt on the bottom so I can add drops of water once they hatch. They need the moisture. Also I can keep the jar in my sight so I will notice when they hatch. On top of the TV or by the kitchen sink or even by the computer, would be good choices.
Once they hatch they will need food. They even will eat each other. If you put two tegether you'll soon have one. Mantises only eat moving prey. Sometime I take a little raw chicken or ground beef and put it on a toothpick and wave it front of them. They usually snatch it. Having a fresh supply of fruit flies, is perfect
for newborns. Just the right size.
I set up a terraium with the wingless fruitflies. Just put the culture right in there. I always have a high mortality rate, no mater what.
The use of small vials is great, for newborns. I like to label the date of birth on it. Use a wet cotton swab to keep moisture in.
The mantis loses its exoskeleton about every 2 weeks.
The mantis usually hangs upside down from a twig. At first it looks like he's dead and then you see the fresh bigger mantis emerge and the old shell hanging on the twig.
