Skin Pigmentation
Pigmentation problems are caused by many factors, including heredity, illness,
injury, acne, allergic reactions to cosmetics or metals, medications and
exposure to the sun.
There are
several common skin pigmentation conditions:
Melasma
Often
called the mask of pregnancy, melasma
affects the forehead, cheekbones and lips with light or dark brown patches.
Pregnant women and women who take estrogen or oral contraceptives can be prone
to melasma. This may be permanent, but usually disappears after pregnancy or
after discontinuing use of oral contraceptives. Many parts of a woman’s body can
develop blotches especially around the nipples, genital area, inner thighs and
underarms. Most distressing for many are patches of dark spots on the forehead,
cheeks and upper lips.
Males
rarely acquire this skin condition, and
people with a brown
complexion and from the Middle East, India, Asia and South America seem to be
affected more frequently. Limiting exposure to sunlight is suggested for those
with this disorder, and the use of sunscreen is highly recommended.
To get rid of melasma, Godiva
recommends the
Melasma Minimizer Set.
Melasma Minimizer Regimen:
1.
Cleanse with Godiva Licorice Skin Whitening Soap.
2.
Apply Godiva Green Tea Sunblock Cream every
morning, whether you are staying indoors or outdoors.
3.
Apply Godiva Licorice Skin Whitening Cream
twice daily on the face and
Godiva Licorice Skin Whitening Lotion on
other body parts.
Freckles
Freckles
are small, brown pigmentation areas that may darken when exposed to sunlight.
This is a common pigmentation condition and is more numerous in fair-skinned
individuals who sunburn easily. They occur following exposure to sunlight and
appear around the age of 5 as tight clusters of pigment granules, usually on the
face.
Freckles
are harmless and need no treatment.
However,
for individuals
who want to get rid of their freckles, Godiva recommends that you use the
Freckle Fader Set.
Freckle Fader Regimen:
1.
Cleanse with Godiva Licorice Transparent Whitening
Soap.
2.
Apply Godiva Licorice Skin Whitening Cream
and after 5 minutes, follow with Godiva Green Tea
Sunblock Cream during daytime.
3.
Apply Godiva Fruit Acid Revitalizing Complex
once daily before bedtime and follow with
Godiva Licorice Skin Whitening Cream.
4.
This combination works better than using just one of the products. It is
important that unnecessary sun exposure is avoided.
Age Spots
Also called
"liver spots" or
"lentigos", age spots are flat, light or
reddish-brown areas of skin that appear most often on the following areas:
●
face and throat
●
the back of the hands and wrist
●
the chest
●
the upper back and shoulders
●
any area exposed to sunlight
They result from overexposure
to the sun, since ultraviolet light stimulates the pigment cells in the skin,
which clump together to produce irregular blotches of dark color.
Age spots develop more often on
light-skinned people over the age of around 55. Although they are said to be a
sign of age, they begin to be noticeable in some people from around the age of
30.
To lighten age spots, Godiva
recommends the
Age Spot Lightening Set.
Age Spot
Lightening Regimen:
1. Cleanse with
Godiva Licorice Transparent Whitening Soap.
2. Apply
Godiva Green Tea Sunblock Cream every morning,
whether you are staying indoors or outdoors.
3. On evenings, apply
Godiva Fruit Acid Revitalizing Complex to
lighten age spots and accelerate the production of fresher, creamier skin.
4. After 5 minutes, apply
Godiva Licorice Skin Whitening Cream to
suppress the formulation of melanin which causes skin pigmentation.
