VARAN
Height: 50 meters
Weight: 15,000 metric tons
Attributes: Claws, fangs, spiny appendages, can glide through the air, and is aquatic.
History: When two members of a scientific community are sent to the Kitanami River to discover why a species of butterfly that are native to Japan could strive in another location, there are mysteriously killed by an unknown force. When an investigation that is funded by a company that is dedicated to revealing 20th century mysteries is sent to find out exactly what is amidst, they are told by a tribe that it was none other than their active god. Of course, modern man does not believe, until Varan rises from the water and makes his presence known to mankind.

The military tries to engage Varan but conventional weapons have no lasting effect. Unable to penetrate Varan's thick hide, the military tries to figure out other ways to dispose of Varan. But Varan soon flies away towards the sea. After attacking ships, Varan is sighted at Tokyo Bay where he's engaged by what the Japanese Military had to offer. Only after hatching a plan of where Varan would eat two bombs, is the menace thought to be disposed of.

It wasn't until 1999, that Varan turned out to be alive and one of the inhabitance of Monster Land. He joined the other monsters and attacked Earth, being under the mind control of aliens. Varan also joined his brethren, after breaking free of the mind control, and raiding the Kilak's base of operations. Despite Godzilla, Gorosaurus and Anguirus being the only monsters who really fought Ghidrah, Varan watched from a safe distance and waited until the space demon was disposed of. Not long after, Varan returned to Monster Land--what happens after is a mystery.

Fighting Power: ***

An average monster really. Sure, Varan can flatten a city and be impervious to conventional monsters, but we never really have seen him combat another like himself. Can only assume Varan would be a good physical brawler, with his sharp claws, thick hide, spines, and teeth. Not to mention, Varan can fly, which would prove to be an advantage to most monsters, I guess.
