SuparinpeiSuparinpei, also called Petchurin, means 108 hands. It is the most advanced kata in Goju Ryu. It begins like Sanchin but quickly changes. The idea behind the kata is to preserve your strength and then explode. Suparinpei moves in all 8 directions with equal strength. Much of the kata is reserved for building power. Motions are performed not weakly, but without full strength. Small jerking motions are mixed with flamboyant spins and attacks. Suparinpei actually contains a large part of Seisan, which is performed without the breathing aspect. Performed correctly this kata can take up to 10 minutes to complete. |
