When Lyar had finished helping Beia, she left and made her way to the wher caves.
"All right I'm here,” said Lyar into the caves, suddenly Deme stepped out from the cave's shadows.
"So how is the one eyed wher search coming along?" asked Deme?
"Not as well as we planned, the blizzard has given the whers more places to hide and I cannot stay outside for long" replied Lyar.
"Shards, I knew that blizzard was going to be trouble. If you had a dragon, would you be able to find any whers quicker?" asked Deme.
"Negative, their wing beats would scare the whers. But if the dragon searched with its mind it might find some whers" replied Lyar. "That would be good but none of the catchers have dragons,” said Deme as he punched the wall. Dane gave a soft growl, which meant to look out; Lyar turned around and began to look. She saw nothing, she snapped her fingers and Dane went running. He leapt into a pile of tall shrubs and human screams were heard, Kese chirped angrily as she launched into the air and began to circle around the shrubs. A boy leapt from the shrubs and was followed by Dane who was snapping at his heels.
"Vorak, I thought that your mother said that you never come to gathers" said Lyar as she reached into her cloak and hurled at thorn at his leg, as the thorn hit he screamed and yanked it out before he threw it. He tried to stand but his leg was limp and he couldn't move it for in the thorn was numbweed.
"Let me guess, numbweed" said Deme.
"Yes, I grabbed the wrong thorn but I guess it's good for him to be awake,” replied Lyar as she walked to Vorak.
"You're going to hurt an innocent wher,” snarled Vorak.
"That wher is not an innocent one, it killed a family and almost killed Dane and I. I tell you this and I tell you now, that wher is not an innocent" replied Lyar as she kicked a bit of snow at him before she turned and left with Dane right behind her and Kese resting on the canine's back.
"Don't worry, the numbweed will wear off in a candlemark at the latest. I just hope that you don't spend all the time in this snow" said Deme as he walked into the wher cave. Vorak growled before he closed his eyes, suddenly a very large wher stepped out from the trees. It searched for Vorak with its one eye before it spotted him and approached him, the wher knelt and Vorak climbed on to its back before the wher raced into the forest.
When Lyar met up with Beia and Onor she had bought a long sword that when strapped on it started at her waist and ended at her feet.
"Watch where you use that, you might hurt someone" said Onor as a small joke.
"I'll only use it for defense" replied Lyar as Onor chuckled.
"Well it looks like we should be going now, we all have what we need" said Beia as they nodded and began to walk to the cart.
They arrived at the hold to find Vorak standing in front of it clutching his shoulder. Beia and Onor leapt from the cart and raced to their son, Lyar grabbed the reigns and pulled the runners to a stop. She squinted her eyes at the family to see them flood with color, the same pain came back only more intense. Instead of letting it go at once she let the color go from each of them at a time to find that as the color left so did the pain, Beia and Onor quickly helped their son into the hold without look back at Lyar. She knew she could take the runners and the things they bought but she wasn't that mean, she flicked the reigns and led the runners back to the stables. As she placed them in their stalls she smelt something that had just died, she called Dane and Kese to her as she began to follow the scent. She followed the scent to the back of the stables to her the sound of bones crunching, Dane quickly went into is fighting stance without uttering a sound. Lyar knew that this was a wher and a large one to be exact; Lyar pulled out her sword and used it like a mirror to see the wher. It was the one eyed wher that she had been looking for, she concentrated and she saw its color. The wher was black and red; she let the color fade and knew that this wher was a mutation of some sort. The wher ended his meal with a loud crunch before it stormed back into the surrounding snow, for being part black the wher quickly disappeared.
"Well Dan it looks like we have just seen our wher" said Lyar as she sheathed her sword and walked back to the hold. When she entered she saw that Vorak had his whole arm bandaged from shoulder to fingers. "What happened to him?" asked Lyar as she walked closer.
"Vorak says that he was outside when a wher attacked him, he says his arm is to mangled for us to see so he bandaged his own arm" answered Beia.
"Well I have a few thorns with some numbweed in them" said Lyar as she pulled them from her cloak.
"Good, we don't want him to feel any pain" replied Beia as she took a thorn and jabbed it into Vorak's arm. He cried out in protest and rose to his feet before Onor pushed him back into the chair, Dane walked over to Vorak and began to sniff his arm. He tried to shoo away the canine but he could move his arm, Kese flew from Lyar's shoulder and landed on Vorak's arm before she began to rip apart the bandages. When she reached his skin she began to lap up the blood that rested their, Dane joined the flit.
"Wait, that blood smells familiar" said Lyar as she felt Kese's pleasure from the blood, she grabbed his arm and ran her finger into the blood before she tasted it. With Kese's help she recognized the blood,
"This is wherry blood not human" said Lyar as she dropped his arm.
"Liar, your going to ruin everything" shouted Vorak as she stood up and ran out of the hold, Kese was still on his arm licking the wherry blood when she went between and arrived on Lyar's shoulder.
