Elgin Juri, taken at Cobb Bridge. Elgin was killed by a booby-trap on June 29, 1969. Mike Weaver, who took this picture, was a good friend of Juri's. Some time after Vietnam he sent all of his pictures to the Juri family. Elgin's brother, Jon, was kind enough to copy them for me. |

"The Filthy Six" So named by Mike Weaver's two younger (about 8-10 years old) brothers when they saw the picture. The "Dirty Dozen" had just came out and I guess they thought the picture put them in mind of the movie. This was taken on a patrol around Cobb Bridge. Mike told me that they had stopped for a break and were just kicked back taking it easy. From left to right in the rear: Bill Gauthier, Elgin Juri, Unknown. In front: Bill Gravelle, Mike Weaver, Garry Shaw. Gauthier was wounded August 17, 1969. Gravelle (who was their squad leader) was wounded August 26, 1969. Mike Weaver was pulled out of the bush in early October and sent to regimental S-3. |

Unknown on the left and Darrell Coffey on the right. Given the mud and general apperance it looks like this was taken in Que Son mountains during the monsoon. That had to have been one of the most miserable months of my life. For the month of October 1969 we averaged 10" of rain every day. |
