A memorial service for our KIAs. This was at Dia La in June 1969. The Marine in the front left of the picture is 1st Lt. J. L. Matlock. We had one of these services at LZ Ross for the men we lost in August 1969. It was a very moving ceremony. After some words from a chaplin they called out each man's name and someone would march up to the row of gear and plant a bayoneted rifle in the ground and set a helmet on it. I remember John Pedro doing this for his friend Hayward Peleiholani. |
