From Richard Orefice
This is the telegram that Richard Orefice's family got after he was wounded.  Even though he was shot in the side the round had first hit one of his magazines so it had lost a good part of its punch.  He told me that he was in the hospital for only two or three days and then it was back to the bush for him.  It was a little too quick as it turned out.  It got infected and he ended up spending more time getting that under control than he did having the initial wound tended to.
From Richard Orefice
This NVA wasn't as lucky as Richard.  Richard's platoon was patroling on Hill 953 when they found him lying in the trail.  He had been shot in the head.  He was only recently dead, no more than a couple of days Orefice figures.

Richard described this area as a "Grotto".  There was a small waterfall and a little pool with some lilly pads floating in it.
