My Side of the Mountain
by Jean Craighead George
Have you ever tried running away from home? If you have you probably didn't make it far. When Sam Gribly tried though, he made it all the way from New York City to the Catskill Mountains! Sam told his father he was running away from their New York apartment to the old Gribly farm in the Catskills. There Sam lives in a hollow tree and eats fruits, nuts and other things he finds and hunts.
Sam lives with a falcon named, "Frightful," which he raised from a baby, the "Baron Weasel" and other wild animals he befriends. Soon the first snowstorm approaches. Find out how Sam makes it through the winter and survives in the wilderness for a year. If you like adventures and wildlife you should read this book.
The Fishing Game
by Nicholas
I see a fish jump
I cast out to the spot
I hope they like the bait
So I wait & wait & wait.

No fish bite
I reel it in
The game begins again.

So I wait & wait & wait.

Monthly Math Challenge
Here's a math challenge related to our trip. You'll have to find out about the time zones!

If our plane takes off at 9PM Eastern Daylight Time and lands in Iceland at 6:00AM Greenwich Mean Time, how long are we actually up in the air?
Here's the answer from back in May: These are the 12 pentmino shapes that can be made from five squares.
