History

Maris Crane was born in 1952 in Seattle. Her father was known as "The Commodore" and she also has at least two sisters, one of whom is named Bree. As a child Maris was quite chubby, but then she started losing weight and was soon very skinny. So skinny in fact that she couldn't get her weight up when she wanted to be a ballerina. She also stole a crucifix from the Vatican when she was young.

Maris lived in her family's mansion, which has been in the family for 4 generations after they made their fortune from urinal cakes. An entire branch of her family tree was slaughtered by the Huguenots many years ago. In 1983 she went to an antique fair and was locked out of her mansion. She met her husband, Niles Crane, when he stopped to help her as she was banging on the electric gates to her home. They got married in 1986. In 1993 Maris and Niles helped Frasier hire Daphne to look after Martin.

Two years later, she went to New York without telling Niles, causing him to worry. This caused her to throw him out of the house when he stood up to her, and they stayed separated for 2 years. Maris wasn't very interested in fixing her marriage as she wanted to get rid of a therapist who wouldn't let her catalogue-shop in their sessions, and then later had an affair with their therapist Dr Bernard Shenkman in 1998, which caused Niles to finally divorce her. Maris' lawyers made it tough but in 1999 Maris and Niles were finally divorced after he found out her secret about the urinal cakes!

Maris carried on being a Seattle socialite for a few year, until in 2003 Maris got herself involved with an Argentinean polo player, Esteban de Rojo, who was violent. Maris murdered Esteban in self defence. She stayed in jail for a few months. In early 2004 her defence trial was due to take place, but Maris escaped to her family's private island where she can't be extradited. Maris is now living out the rest of her life there.

Personality

Considering we have never ever seen Maris appear on screen, we know quite a lot about this peculiar woman. She can be very controlling (taking after her late father, the "Commodore") and has to inspired to make decisions (by things such as a new Mercedes which Niles bought for her as an "I'm sorry" present after they had an argument). She also has countless servants such as Yoshi the gardener or Marta the maid. She cannot produce saliva (meaning her servants have to lick envelopes for her) or eat certain foods - such as shellfish, poultry, red meat, saturated fats, nitrates, wheat, starch, sulphates and nuts. She thinks her allergy to chocolate means she can use the disabled parking spaces. She has this thing which makes her lose all co-ordination whenever she passes a shoe shop. She has over 112 unpaid parking tickets. She tries too hard to be interesting and exhausts herself in the process. Her room was opposite Niles'. She has had a lot of plastic surgery. She sleeps with a pistol under her pillow...
