Annapolis Maryland

When we first arrived in Annapolis, we anchored off the Naval Academy for a few days while we checked out the town. During the late afternoons the football team and marching band provided us with entertainment as they practiced for the game with the Air Force Academy.
Our first morning ashore was spent having breakfast in a local eatery where we met the former mayor of Annapolis, Al Hopkins, who gave us free tickets to the boat show. After that, we walked around town to see the historic buildings. Did you know that Annapolis served as the nation's capital before Washington D.C.? The Maryland State House with its large wooden dome and spire is prominent in the small downtown area. George Washington gave his retirement speech here in 1783. Most of the houses and shops reflect that revolutionary period.
When the wind changed direction and strength, we moved First Star to a mooring in the inner harbor where it was much more comfortable. Then we rented a car and made the short drive to Washington for the Library of Congress Book Festival
