HARFORD COUNTY YOUTH ACADEMY
The Harford County Sheriff's Office Youth Academy was started in 1999 by Sheriff Joseph Meadows as a program to teach high school students, who may be interested in law enforcement, if this is the right carrier for them.  The academy is held twice every summer, free of charge, to students that apply and are chosen to attend.  Those who do attend the academy will spend five days and four nights at the Harford Glenn Environmental Education Center and will be instructed by Harford County's School Policing Team.  Some of the activities academy students will be able to do include: visiting The Harford County Detention Center, The Harford County Police Academy, and The University of Maryland Shock Truama Center.  Students will also be able to go canoeing, use the ropes coarse, go to the movies, learn fingerprinting, learn to write police reports and traffic tickets, how to use the radar gun, learn about Special Response Team (SRT) tactics, shoot non-leathal wepons, and even use the F.A.T.S. shooting simulator.  The Youth Academy is truly a great program for all those interested in pursuing a carrer in any branch of law enforcement.  If you or any one you know would like to attend the academy, you can e-mail me for more information (I have attended the academy) or visit the Harford County Sheriff's Office website at: www.harfordsheriff.org and click the Sheriff's Youth Academy Link.
