Ray Evernham is gone, Brian Whitesell is in and the NASCAR Racing world shocked.
One of the most successful driver/crew chief tandems in NASCAR Winston Cup Series history has officially come to an end.
Hendrick Motorsports has issued a release stating it has granted crew chief Ray Evernham a release from his contract,
which was to run through 2006. Under the terms of an agreement reached this week, Evernham leave is effective immediately.
Brian Whitesell, who was the team's car chief, has been named Evernham's replacement.

Brian Whitesell is off to a great start, leading the #24 team to a fifth place qualifing effort and a race win,
with a not to pit decision at the last yellow, in his first Winston Cup Race as crew chief.

for three-time champion Jeff Gordon and the No. 24 DuPont Automotive Finishes Chevrolet team.

Racing Fans mourn the death of Seven Time Winston Cup Champion
Dale Earnhardt who lost his life at the Daytona 500 2/18/2001
The winningest driver at Daytona crashed on the last lap going
into the last turn after being bumped by another car.
Sadly he never got to see his newest DEI driver, Michael Waltrip,
win his first Winston Cup points race after fifteen years of trying.
