Chapter 10

In less than a week the vacation was over and it was back to work.  He didn’t seem to be excited at all.  In fact, he was enjoying not doing anything, not traveling, no interviews or waking up early.  They were headed back into the studio and even the process of making a new album didn’t give him the same enjoyment it had in the past. He was about to get on the roller coaster again and his personal life was a mess.  What the hell was he going to say when he was asked the usual crap about who was single?  Maybe they wouldn’t ask since everyone knew he and Shayna had been together for the last two years.  Yeah right. He needed to go home and pack for his trip; he would be in Los Angeles for two weeks with the guys in the studio and a few writing sessions.  The ringing of his cell phone interrupted his thoughts,
“Hello?”
“Hi honey.”  Great he thought, his mother, he knew exactly what she was going to talk about,
“How are you?”  He sighed,
“I’m ok momma.  How is everybody?”
“Everyone is fine; we miss you.”  He sighed,
“Miss you too.”  There was a slight pause and he figured this was it,
“We’re in Phoenix, why don’t you come out and join us before you have to get back to work?”  He hadn’t seen his family in about a month and it would be crazy once he and the guys really got into the studio.  Before he knew it, it would be time for promotion and tours.
“That’s a good idea.  I’m not doing anything here.”  He smiled slightly; this is the longest she has ever gone without getting right down to it,
“So are you sure you and Shayna are over?”  He smiled, that’s his mom he knew and loved, always in his business.  He couldn’t be too upset because more times that not she was usually right.
“Looks like it.”  She wasn’t settling for that answer,
“Why?  She’s a nice girl Nick.”  That didn’t sit well with him and it was evident in his voice,
“What are you trying to say?  It’s my fault?  Thanks.” He could hear her sigh on the other end of the phone,
“That’s not what I’m saying-“
“Well what ARE you saying?”  Her voice became a little firmer,
“Calm down Nick.  All I saying was that she’s a nice person and you should both make sure its what you want to do.” He rubbed his eyes and shook his head; he knew Shayna was a nice person.  It wasn’t like she did something awful they both just…just what?  He wasn’t sure why they broke up anymore.  Was it really that bad?
“Look mom, I need to go pack.  I’ll call you later and let you know when I’m flying in.”
“I love you.”  He looked over at the clock and sighed,
“I love you too.”  She was still at work; he might as well go pack for his trip for Phoenix and LA while she wasn’t there.
