| Chapter 19 She was on her way home from work when she realized she still had the key to his house, she pulled into the shopping plaza and turned back in the direction of his house. She might as well get it all over with, this was the final connection, once she gave back the key there was no longer any reason for them to speak. He should have been back in town for the past few days. She pulled up next to his truck and sat there trying to get herself together. She hadn’t talked to him since that time she called him in LA and he seemed like he didn’t want to talk. She walked up and rang the doorbell; she figured it would have been wrong to use the key. He opened the door and she couldn’t help but stare, how does he make a pair of jeans and a T-shirt look sexy? Please Shayna, ninety-nine percent of the time you think he’s sexy and it never had anything to do with what he was wearing. Her thoughts were interrupted, “Hey.” She shook her head slightly, “Hi, um, I brought your key back.” She held up her key ring and he chuckled, “Here, give me, you never could take a key off of a key ring.” He took her keys out of her hand and walked back into the house. She hadn’t planned on going inside; she was simply going to give him the key and leave. She followed him in and stood as he sat on the couch with her keys. He looked up, “Sit.” She sat in the chair, making sure not to sit next to him on the couch; she didn’t want him to think she was after him. He looked over at her as he placed the key on the coffee table, still holding her key ring in his hands, “So, what have you been up to?” Her eyes were on the TV, “Working, joined a gym, registered for a college class.” She looked over as he nodded, “You been busy.” She smiled, “Yeah.” She looked around, not knowing what to say, “Did you have fun in LA?” He nodded as he flipped the TV, “Yeah, had a great time.” “How are the guys?” He rolled his eyes but the corners of his mouth turned up and she knew it wasn’t a bad thing, “They’re the same, you know them.” She laughed, “So Kevin was bossy, you guys argued and had a lot of fun.” He nodded his head, “Pretty much.” She stood up and walked over to get her keys and he held on to her hand and looked up at her. She looked down at her hand in his, “What’s wrong?” She looked at him and he shook his head, “Nothing.” She didn’t know what to say and she didn’t know what to do. Every time he looked at her with that look they always ended up in bed, “I, I need to get going.” He simply released her hand and she quickly walked out. Once she was in her car she lay her head back and let out a breath. What was that? What was he doing? Probably playing another game, there is no way I’m going to let him make me feel stupid again. She made it home and wandered around the apartment, she was restless but it was a Thursday night and she had to be up early for work the next morning. She finally gave up and flopped on the couch and began to channel surf when she saw the guys on the television. It was MTV and they were talking to Howie and Kevin about the new album, she could see Nick and AJ in the background goofing around and she began to smile. Kevin would have had a heart attack if he saw them behind him. She looked at him and he looked so happy, not a care in the world. He got on with his life and it was time for her to get on with hers.
