Chapter 26

Nick was sitting outside by the pool with a couple of the guys that night and thought about Shayna.  She had really moved on with her life, in a way.  She was in class; she went out and did things with her friends a lot and even started volunteering.  Of course there was no way he could forget she was dating someone else.  She was supposed to love him, always want to be with him.  Maybe part of it was all about ego but he never forgot his talk with AJ in New York either.  What if she was his special someone?  What if she was as good as it got for him, his perfect girl and he let her get away?  She wasn’t there for him, she was there for someone else and that wasn’t something that he liked.  She was his; she belonged to him.
“What are you thinking about?”  He sighed; he didn’t care if Sam gave him a hard time,
“Shayna.”  Sam frowned,
“Why are you thinking about her?”  Nick laid his head back on the chair,
“I want her.”  Sam laughed,
“I don’t blame you man, she is so hot, I can’t believe you haven’t got with her a few times since you broke up.”  Nick locked eyes with Craig and they both knew that he and Sam were not talking about the same thing.

When he knocked on her door and there was no answer he returned to his truck.  His cell phone rang,
“Hello?”
“Hi baby.”  He smiled, twenty-two years old and he figured his mom thought of him as more of a baby than the others probably that first-born thing,
“Hey momma.”  Or it may be that I call her momma like I’m seven, he thought as he rolled his eyes and smiled.
“I was just calling to see how you were doing and to remind you to send an anniversary card and call your grandma and grandpa.  He laughed,
“I didn’t forget.”  His mother sighed,
“Nick.”  He laughed,
“Ok, ok I forgot; thanks for reminding me.”  She laughed,
“Alright, hold on Aaron…Aaron wants to talk to you.” He was about to respond when he saw Shayna walk up with a man.
“Look momma, tell him I’ll call him later.  I have to go.”  He heard the concern in his mother’s voice,
“Is everything ok?”  He looked on, this must be the guy she’s dating; his hands were on Shayna’s waist and he pulled her to him.
“Nick…Nick are you ok?”  He shook his head,
“What? Yeah, I’m fine, I just need to take care of something.”  He hung up the phone just as her date leaned down and kissed her.  He looked at Shayna’s reaction and smiled, she doesn’t kiss him the way she kissed me, he thought.
