Chapter 32

I hate these flights.   New York to California was bad enough but international flights were like torture.  They were always so long and he was always so anxious and bored.  Sitting on a plane for ten hours with nothing to do was like being in jail.  He sighed and began to squirm in his seat.
“Sit still.”  He looked over and rolled his eyes, how in the hell did he end up in a seat next to Kevin anyway?  One, he wasn’t in the mood for any stories and lectures and two, Kevin has no patience and never wants to sit next to him to begin with.
“I can’t, when do we get there?”  Kevin sighed and looked over at him with one eye closed before he looked at his watch,
“Five hours to go.”  Nick flopped back with an exaggerated sigh and closed his eyes. Kevin seemed to have been irritated into conversation and he regretted even breathing,
“So, I can’t believe you and Shayna are over.  I would have figured you two would have gotten back together by now.”  Nick sighed and turned his head towards the window,
“Nope, we’re just friends; in fact, she just started seeing someone.”  Kevin seemed surprised to hear that,
“Really?  How can you two go from being practically married, to breaking up, to friends all in about four months?” Nick looked over at him and shrugged,
“Guess we’re just lucky.”  He had no intentions of telling Kevin he and Shayna had a sex only relationship now and that she was cheating on her boyfriend with him.  Talk about a lecture to end all lectures.  He laid his head back and closed his eyes hoping Kevin would get the picture.

They arrived in Sweden at four in the afternoon and Nick went straight to bed.  Luckily, they had a down day before studio sessions and he didn’t plan on doing anything.  He woke up to roll over and saw it was eleven that night, he sighed, time change is such a bitch.  He did the math and figured it was about five in the evening back on the East Coast and he would give Shayna a call,
“Hello?”  He pulled the phone away from his ear and looked at it, must be the wrong number he figured as he hung up and tried her again,
“Hello?” the same voice came over the speaker and he knew he hadn’t got it wrong this time when he heard Shayna’s laughter in the background,
“Oh, sorry.  I must have the wrong number.”  There was a slight chuckle,
“No problem.”  And then he hung up.  That must be her boyfriend, he thought.  What the hell was he doing answering her phone?  They are that serious now?  The sound of his voice made Nick’s stomach hurt.  He had heard his voice before; he had even seen him kiss Shayna but hearing him answer the phone, almost like they were living together and hearing her laughter.  He was making her happy, she was happy without him.  He was the one that used to make her laugh until she cried.  Was that what he was doing?  He sat up and got dressed; he wasn’t going to sit in a hotel thinking about her when she was lying on her back getting screwed.

He walked into the club with his bodyguard and one of the producers.  They had been sitting at the table for a while drinking when Nick decided he wanted to dance.  He went over to the blonde he had been making eye contact with all night and leaned in her ear,
“Wanna dance?”  She nodded and allowed him to lead her to the dance floor.  He wrapped his arms around her waist and separated her legs with his.  As she straddled his leg they grinded to the music. She laid her head in the crook of his neck and his hands began to wander her body.  He pulled back and they looked into each other’s eyes and seemed to be unaware that there was anyone else around.  Under the strobe lights, they looked as if they were having sex.  He leaned over into her ear and she nodded with a shy smile; he took her hand and walked back to the table to tell them it was time to go.
