Chapter 87

They wrapped up their interview and went from Burbank directly to the E! studios in Hollywood to do an interview on E! News.  They were all sitting on a large long red couch and there was a chair to the left of it.  Kevin was first, closest to the male reporter in the chair, followed by Howie, Brian, AJ and then Nick, who was next to the female reporter at the other end of the couch.  They were going over the questions and introducing themselves when they were cued that they were about to go live,
"Ok, we're back and joinig us is the most successful pop group in the past ten years."  He stopped himself and looked over at the guys,
"Do you ever get tired of hearing yourselves introduced like that?"  Kevin smiled,
"There could be worse ways."  The reporter, Bob, turned back to the camera,
"If you haven't guessed by now and you must be living under a rock, it's the Backstreet Boys."  There was a small amount of clapping from the employees who were in the studio,
"Ok, you guys will be releasing a CD next week, how is the promotion going for that?  What all have you been doing?"  Howie and Kevin began to talk at once and Kevin smiled and gave Howie the sign to proceed,
"Well, we just finished taping The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. After this we fly to New York do Regis and The View tomorrow  And then next week we have MTV and our in-stores."  Bob nodded,
"Now, the in-stores, that's going to be crazy.  I have your schedule, let me go through this, I don't know how you guys are going to do this.  On your album release day, thats Tuesday, you have a Virgin in-store signing in Time Square.  Wednesday it's an in-store in Boston, Thursday it's an in-store in Atlanta, Friday an in-store in Minneapolis and the big one is an in-store here in LA on Saturday.  That's crazy, how are you going to do that?"  Brian smiled,
"It's all for the fans, we want as many of our fans to be able to see us.  We are fortunate enough to have so much success that we can do things like this, so if it makes our fans happy, then that's what we'll do."  AJ cleared his throat,
"We've been doing this for years, I mean you learn to sleep on the plane and just relax.  We'll take a few days off after the promo tour."  For the first time Lynn, the female anchor, spoke,
"Ok, I am a magazine junkie, I read them all.  You guys will be in Seventeen and Teen People in the next couple of weeks and you are in the current issue of People and on the cover of the current Rolling Stone; there are few things I want to ask you about some of these articles.  Have you read them?"  They nodded and mentioned they had seen the Rolling Stone, Brian saying he hadn't read any of them,
"Ok, the cover of Rolling Stone says, Still Looking For Respect, do you guys feel it hasn't come and if so what do you think you have to do to get it?"  Brian sat forward,
"It's...for whatever reason in music as long as you play an instrument, even if you sound like a screaching cat you are a "real" artist.  To disrepsect women and use foul language makes you legitimate too.  If thats what is required then we will never be respected.  We make good music and we work harder than most people will ever know, we deserve repsect whether you like what we do or not."  The anchors nodded and Lynn continued,
"Great answer, I completely agree with that.  Now I have to dish a little, now one of you is in the recent issue of Cosmo."  They smiled and laughed as Nick covered his face,
"Aww man."  She smiled and placed an arm around him,
"Did the guys give you a hard time about this article?"  He exhaled through his mouth and looked around at the people standing behind the scenes,
"Yeah, a little bit."  She smiled,
"Did they know what it was going to be about or were they surprised?"  Howie spoke up before Nick could speak,
"We were definitely surprised."  AJ laughed,
"But very proud."  That elicited laughter and Lynn leaned in towards Nick as if whispering,
"Ok, what did you leave out?  There has to be more, c'mon.  Favorite place?"  He laughed and quickly replaced his smile with a smirk and leaned towards her with a deep whispered voice,
"I like the shower."  She began to fan herself with her notes,
"Woo, you aren't going to be eligible for much longer."  He looked over and saw that Kevin wasn't particularly thrilled with all the attention his sexual habits were getting but he didn't care.

As they made their way out of the studio Nick walked behind with Lynn,
"That was a good interview.  I'm still figure out how your people let you say all that."  He laughed,
"Get me alone in a car with no PR people and I tell it all."  She laughed,
"I'll have to remember that.  Good luck."  He nodded and smiled as she leaned in and kissed him.
