| Chapter 20 It was the night of the MTV Movie Awards and there was such a buzz in the air that I was excited as I waited for the doors of my limo to open and expose me to the masses. It was just me, Cory and Martie tonight. Steven, as usual lately, wasn't able to make it. I've seen him less and less as my career has begun to move into the next level. It was one the prices of success he said. Sometimes I'd rather give it all up and follow him around so we can be together. I missed the times when we spent so much time together we were finishing each other's sentences. I looked over at Martie and she smiled, "Excited huh?" I nodded, "Yeah, very." She seemed to look at me with shock. It was rare I let my emotions be seen and when I did they were usually anger and nastiness not happiness and excitement. The man who opened my door took my hand and helped me step out. Walking was going to be crazy in these shoes, well shoes is a nice way of saying death trap. Once false move and I was going to break my neck, but that's the price for beauty and fashion. As I strolled the red carpet, well stroll isn't a very good word because every ten steps there is a star on the ground that you have to stand on and pose for the photographers as they shout your name and ask you to smile and look their way. I stand as they took pictures of me in my baby blue silk top, the neckline, for a lack of a better word, dipped below and exposed my bellybutton and my tight red leather pants. Just as I turn to strike another pose I see a kid running towards me with a bouquet of flowers, "Brehan I love you." I smile at him, he couldn't be more than seventeen or eighteen, "Thank you sweetie." I smelled the flowers as he was ushered off the red carpet. Cory took the flowers from me as I went back to posing for the cameras like nothing had just happened. That has never happened to me before, it was a rush and I felt honored. Of course I had fans, admirers, groupies but that was somehow different, it seemed so pure and genuine. Once I finally made my way down the red carpet I was standing next to Suchin Pak and she smiled at me, "Hi there Brehan." I smiled, someone really needs to do something with her makeup I keep thinking, "Hi." "How has it been so far? Walking down that red carpet?" I smiled as I looked up at the bleachers at the fans, "It's been great. A kid gave me flowers, what more could a girl want." She smiled, "Just now?" I nodded, "Yeah, he jumped security and gave them to me on the red carpet." I waved at the kids who were waving at me as she asked her question, "Now, they say every model is an aspiring actress. Is that true in your case?" I stretched my eyes, "That's what they say huh? Well, for me, I got into modeling to model, that's all. I wouldn't turn down the opportunity if it came my way but if I'm not good at it, I'm not going to do it. It has to be right. But for now, I'm just getting adjusted to this modeling thing so I think I'll stick with that for now." Hey, that was pretty good. Alot better than telling her I thought it was a stupid question, "Now, people are still talking about your Maxim spread. Did you think it would get all this attention?" I smiled and tossed my hair, "Well, you hope people like it or there's no reason to do it. I'm glad people like it." Another stupid question, come on give me a break. She smiled and thanked me for the interview and I sighed in relief as I made my way off the red carpet. I wanted to but there were stairs and I hadn't had to go down a flight a stairs in these shoes and now I'm wondering if I can. As I look down the stairs I see an outstretched hand in front of me. I follow the hand up the arm and keep going to see it was attached to Nick Carter, "You need some help?" Actually I do need some help and I didn't care who was offering I don't want to fall on my face in front of all these people. I took his hand and looked at him once before concentrating on the stairs. He had a very hard look on his face and I couldn't read it. Once I was safely down the four steps he leaned into me just slightly, "You look nice." There was nothing sexy about it, nothing mean, it was just a compliment and that was it. He didn't wait for me to say the same, or even for a thank you. He took off with some big guy who was right behind him and that was it. I watched until I couldn't see him anymore, then Cory placed her hand on my back, "You ready?" I nodded and smiled, "Yeah, ready." I smiled and made my way into the theater. Backstage I was reading over my lines with one of the production assistants when I looked over in the corner and saw Nick talking with AJ and some other guy and a blonde. I looked over at the assistant, "I got it, thanks." He nodded and walked off. I turned to Cory, "I'll be back." She frowned, "You need me to get you something?" Always the assistant. I shook my head, "No, just going over to say hello to someone." As I walk over to Nick I wonder why I'm doing this and there really wasn't a reason not. I didn't say thank you for helping me, I didn't say thank you for the compliment, it was the least I could do since I was still in such a good mood from by teenage crush. As I made my way over I see them all look at me, "Hi." I looked at them all and finally let my eyes land on Nick last. He didn't say anything, he just stood there and looked at me occasionally as AJ introduced me to their friend, "Hi Brehan. Brehan this is Brian, he's in the group with us and that's his wife Leighanne." I smiled and nodded at them, "Hello." I turned to AJ, "Nice pants." He was wearing a pair of black leather pants and they looked similiar to mine. He laughed, "Same to you. The entire outfit actually." I glanced over at Nick, who's hands were in his pockets as he looked around, "Nick, just wanted to say thank you for earlier. I appreciate it." He just stood there and I smiled, I'm sure my behavior, considering our first few encounters, is strange to him, "Oh, its ok. I mean, you're welcome." I nodded and looked at the couple again, "Well, nice meeting you all." Then I looked at AJ, "And seeing you again." I walked off and made my way back to Cory and Martie. Martie was always working, "Everything ok?" I nodded, "Yeah, don't worry it was nothing business and nothing bad. Just saying hello." She and Martie threw each other a look and I rolled my eyes, Jesus I'm not the fucking Queen of Mean. Sitting out in the audience after presenting the award for Best Fight Scene I scan the room during a break in the ceremonies taking a look at who was around. I smiled as P. Diddy came over to me, "I just wanted to say congratulations on Maxim. You really did your thing, it was hot." I smiled, "Thank you." He handed me his card, "I would love to see you in my clothes, Sean John." I smiled and handed the card to Cory and she slipped it inside her bag, that was one of many good things about having an assistant, someone else was carrying the bag and the coat.
