| Chapter 14 Larry woke up and decided to go check on Nick. He hadn't seen or heard from him since they made it to their hotel in Atlanta the previous night and he was beginning to worry that Nick might have repeated his drunken night. He got dressed and made his way to Nick's room, he hated being on seperate floors. Why they did that sometimes he'd never know. As he knocked on the door he figured he was going to have to use the key but was surprised when Nick answered the door, "Hey man." He nodded as he turned and walked back into the room, "So, did you sleep well last night?" Nick looked at him briefly before sitting back down on the couch, "I didn't touch the minibar, you can check if you want." Larry shook his head and sat down in the chair near the couch, "You're over 21, that's your business." He took a deep breath and decided to dig for some info on what he was thinking about being a father and the whole Quinn and Mac situation, "So, when are you going to see Mac? Or is Quinn going to bring her out on the road?" Nick shook his head, "Why would I do that?" Larry stopped looking at the TV and looked at Nick, "So you can see your daughter. You aren't going to wait until the tour is over are you?" Nick shook his head, "That baby is not mine." Larry's eyes grew wide, "What? What do you mean the baby is not yours?" Nick looked over at him and sighed, "What do you think it means? Its a pretty clear statement." Larry couldn't believe this, "Nick-" He sighed and turned off the TV, "It's obvious I'm not going to watch TV with you in here. I called Quinn that night you told me and she said the baby is not mine. What do you want me to do? Take care of the baby because the baby's dad isn't around?" Larry shook his head, "Nick, gimme a break. I don't know why she doesn't want you to know but you are Mac's father." He could tell Nick was getting really upset, his lips were in a tight line and his skin was becoming flushed, "She said its not mine, what do you want from me?" Larry stood up and shook his head, "Nick you know that baby is yours." Nick stood up and was directly in front of Larry, "No, I don't...Quinn said I'm not the father, who should I believe? The baby's mother or you?" Larry took a deep breath, he wasn't going to get in a shouting contest with Nick, "Nick, I talked to her yesterday. She said the baby is yours but she wouldn't admit it to you. Like I said, I don't know why. You saw that baby, she's not completely black. Even Howie and Kevin could tell she's biracial. Don't be stupid." Nick's eyes flashed in anger, "I'm not stupid. Look man, just leave." Larry nodded and turned to him when he got to the door, "I didn't mean you were stupid, I'm sorry for that. Look, Quinn has never asked you for anything. Not jewelry, not clothes, nothing. She wasn't some hanger on. She's a good girl. How long did she act like she didn't like you? Don't act like its not possible for Mac to be yours." He walked out the room and hoped Nick would come to his senses before he had to butt in. Nick went over to the minibar and was about to pull out something to take away a little of the edge he was feeling then he stopped. Once again he was about to take a drink to make the bad feelings about his new situation go away. It scared him and he went out on the balcony and sat with his feet propped up. He wasn't ready to be a father, he didn't know the first thing about being someone's dad. Teaching them right from wrong, hell, he was still doing wrong. How could he have gotten her pregnant, he'd never gotten anyone pregnant before. Sometimes he wondered if he could even get a girl pregnant, quite a few times he had sex without a condom. No one ever came back to him and even said they thought they were pregnant, he had perfected the pull out method. Ever since he was fifteen he had been getting lectures about having safe sex and not getting someone pregnant from his dad and all the guys in the group. Out of all the guys to get someone pregnant he guessed it should be no surprise that he, the fuck up, did it first. Hell, even the two married guys didn't get their wives pregnant. What the hell were they going to say? At least it was better than being an alcoholic right? Maybe, in Brian's eyes becoming a drunk was probably more accepting than a child out of wedlock. The guys and his father weren't the only ones to warn him, so did his mother. She was more worried about someone trapping him for the newly acquired Carter wealth. This was all too much he thought as I looked out at the city. It was eating at him. He may not have been thrilled about it but he needed to know. He called Larry, "Pack an overnight bag and come over here. Don't tell anyone, don't talk to anyone." He called Delta Airlines and found the earliest possible plane they could catch. As he was on the phone getting the information from the ticket agent there was a knock on the door, "Nick, what's-" Nick held up his hand, "Ok, thats perfect that one." He walked around packing his own overnight bag and then hung up, "Nick, what is going on?" Nick sighed, "We're going to see Quinn." Larry frowned, "You can't leave without telling someone and you can't leave anyway because you guys have some MTV interview thing tonight." Nick shook his head, "I'll tell them, when I'm at the airport and not a minute sooner. And they can give an interview without me." Larry shook his head, "You have a concert tomorrow-" Nick nodded, "That's why we're taking an overnight bag. We'll be back tomorrow. I took care of it, tickets all taken care of. We leave Miami tomorrow at 11:05am. That's more than enough time to get back here for the concert. I just need to talk to her." Larry shook his head, "Look, its morning, she's probably at work. Why don't you just call her?" Nick shook his head, "No, I have to see her. She can lie over the phone, I need to see her when she says the baby isn't mine." Larry nodded and smiled, "So you getting excited about having a baby?" Nick shook his head, he knew Larry wanted to hear that he was but the truth was that he wasn't, "Sorry man, really I'm not. I just need to know. And I don't need any surprises showing up in People magazine with her and Mac on the cover and the title saying Nick Carter's secret love child." Larry nodded, "Ok, I guess. But we don't know where she lives. Let me call her." Nick shook his head, "No way. When we get there. If anything, you can call her and say you bought something for the baby and you need her address." Larry stopped and really looked at him, "You've really been thinking about this haven't you?" Nick smiled, "Like I said, I'm not stupid." He saw the look on Larry's face, "I know you didn't mean anything by it." Larry nodded, "Well, let's go to Miami and see if your life has changed forever." Nick nodded, there was no turning back. He grabbed his bag and followed Larry out the door, hoping like hell he wasn't a father. Chapter 15 Reunited Home |
