Chapter 30

She woke up and it was 6:50 in the morning, there was no way she was going to work, she called in and let them know she woudn't be coming in and went to check on Mac.  She was sitting up against the rail in her crib, quiet as could be,
"Wow, pretty girl, how are you?"  She picked her up, changed her diaper and made her way back to the bed,
"Your daddy is still asleep."  She sat Mac in between them and turned on the TV,
"What do you want to watch little momma?"  Quinn flipped the TV until she found the Today Show,
"Let's see what's going on in the world?"  She whispered,
"Until your daddy wakes up, then its cartoon time."  Quinn stood up then placed a few pillows on her side of the bed,
"Stay there ok?  I'm going to get you some milk."  She walked into the kitchen and made a bottle for Mac when she began to think about the night she and Nick shared.  She smiled as she leaned on the countertop.  She enjoyed being with Nick and the thought of being with him and only him ran across her mind.  They hardly ever fought, they never fought when they were first together, but they were never really together she thought.  It was hanging out a few times and then a sex-filled vacation in Mexico.  It could work she thought as she made her way back to the bedroom with the bottle.  She was surprised to see Nick was awake,
"Hey, what are you doing up?  It's barely seven."  He looked over at Mac,
"MacKenzie slapped me in the face."  Quinn couldn't help but laugh,
"Ooh, bet that's gotta hurt."  He rolled his eyes and then began to laugh,
"What?  What's so funny?"  Nick ran his hand through her hair once she sat down,
"Bad hair day huh?"  She rolled her eyes and sighed,
"Wow, my hair must really be jacked up for a white boy to comment on how bad it looks."  He laughed,
"Nah, it's not that bad."  She crossed her arms,
"Ok so why did you say something about it?"  He shrugged,
"Ok, so its bad."  She shook her head and stood up, he jumped up with nothing on but his boxers and pulled her into his arms,
"Ah come on, there's no such thing as perfect remember?  Everyone has bad hair days."  She tried to pull away and he held on tighter,
"Ah come on, don't be mad."  She was still pouting and he shook his head and smiled,
"And don't stand there like someone stole your ball."  She fought it but she couldn't help but smile,
"You're the one who messed it up, pulling my hair last night.  I hate you."  He laughed,
"You know you can't stay mad at me."  She finally freed herself from his grasp and walked into the bathroom.  Soon his reflection was in the mirror smiling at her as he watched her play with her hair,
"Ok, get out and watch Mac, I'm going to take a shower...and wash my fucked up hair."  He nodded,
"MacKenzie."  She looked at him and frowned,
"Huh?"  He shrugged,
"Call her MacKenzie, I really like that.  You did a good job naming her."  She smiled,
"Thanks."

Mac was dressed in a little yellow outfit and the three of them were out in the backyard taking pictures when Nick's cell phone rang.  He walked over, turned down the radio and picked it up off the table,
"Hello?"  Larry sighed,
"Where are you?"  Nick frowned,
"I'm at Quinn's"  Larry rolled his eyes,
"So why aren't you answering the door?"  Nick smiled,
"Sorry, we're in the backyard.  Come around to the back."

Larry walked around, pushed open the gate and laughed when he saw Quinn taking pictures of Nick and Mac, who was laying on his stomach,
"Look at the happy family."  Quinn turned around to see Larry smiling as he watched them.  She smiled and ran over to him,
"Hey."  He smiled as he hugged her,
"Hey yourself, looks like you two are having fun."  She nodded and placed one arm on his shoulder,
"Wonderful, its been the best time ever.  A little rough, but its good now."  Nick sat up with Mac sitting on his thigh,
"Hey man, what time do we leave?"  Larry looked at his watch,
"We don't need to leave for the airport for another hour."  Quinn turned to him,
"Would you mind taking a few pictures of the three of us, please?"  He shook his head,
"As long as I get a copy."  She nodded,
"Of course."  She went over and sat down next to Nick.  MacKenzie was on his thigh and he supported himself on the arm next to Quinn.  So when she sat next to him he looked as if his arm was around her waist.  She placed her arm around his shoulder and leaned in.  Larry took several shots as they changed poses and Larry even got in one shot with Mac and Quinn.

Nick held MacKenzie,
"I'll see you again as soon as I can."  He kissed her on the cheek as the tears fell down Quinn's face.  He sighed and handed MacKenzie to Larry,
"Here man, hold her."  Larry nodded,
"With pleasure."  He sat on the couch and played with Mac as Nick pulled Quinn into his arms,
"Don't cry, come on.  I'll see her again, I'm gonna be there for her."  He pulled back and wiped the tears from her face,
"And you too if you need me to be."  She nodded,
"Yeah, I know."  To be honest, she didn't know but she hoped, she dreamed, wished that he would follow through on all the things he always said but she knew from experience that Nick was all talk sometimes.  He couldn't come through on simple promises of picking up the phone and calling or keeping in touch.  She took Mac from Larry's hands and Larry picked up Nick's bag,
"I washed his clothes so you don't have to worry about the funk."  Nick shook his head and rolled his eyes,
"Whatever."  Larry laughed and nudged Nick,
"You don't know how good you have it, you better hold on to her."  Nick smiled,
"Yeah, I might keep her."  She rolled her eyes as they laughed and walked out the door.  She looked down at Mac,
"Ok, it's just you and me Mac."  She smiled,
"MacKenzie."
