The First Baptist Church- the first available minuets show a fully organized church at the original townsite of Hampton (just north of present day Gordon). The first known minutes are dated January 3, 1879 for the Baptist Church of Christ in Hampton. The pastor was O.F. Gragg. On June 21, 1881 it was voted to move the church to Gordon and so it was moved later that year. The first building was built in 1885. A new faciltiy was built in 1907 (right) for $3,200.00. In 1916 electric lights were added. The present day brick building construction began in 1936 using 38,000 brick. On June 13, 1943 the building was dedicated after 8 years of work. | |||||||||||||||||

The Methodist Church- the church began in March of 1880 in Old Hampton. In 1882 the church was moved to Gordon proper where a frame structure was erected. In 1900 a new brick structure was completed (left). On June 21, 1950 that church was raized to make room for a new building completed December 9, 1951, which is the present day facility. | |||||||||||||||||
