The Avro Arrow is a Canadian aviation legend. This supersonic jet fighter was designed and built in Canada and the first five were flown with Prat & Whitney J-75 engines in 1958. The Iroquois engines designed and built to power the Arrow were installed in the 5th and 6th Arrows, ready to fly when the then Conservative government cancelled further development. All aircraft were ordered destroyed at the final stages of design. There were 37 on the assembly line at the time. In retrospect the Canadian people agree, this was one of the biggest political mistakes in Canadian history. The Arrow was decades ahead in aircraft design and if flown with the 56,000 pound thrust of it's Iroquois engines,would have exceeded all air speed records of the day, establishing Canada's lead in aircraft technology.    In this painting of the Arrow, I wanted to include three elements. (1) Arrow RL-203 which was the only of the five airborne Arrows which carried two people in flight, also had the most complete paint scheme, including the red ensign on it's tail. (2) I included both chase planes which always flew with the Arrow on test flights; the CF-100 and the F-86 Sabre. I made sure I had the correct paint treatment for those aircraft as well as including thier correct serial numbers. (3) The entire Avro plant on the ground below at Malton, Ontario ( the northeast corner of L.B. Pearson Airport) with a full parking lot to illustrate the magnitude of the dedicated work force which was devistated at the whim of polititians.    There are a collection of great web-sites dedicated to the history of the AVRO ARROW.
