This scene presented itself in a most peculiar way. My wife, Donna, and I were returning from a winter trip to Ottawa, after visiting her Aunt. On the way home the sun was on my left and flashing in and out of the trees at the edge of the highway. As we passed through a small town near Chalk River, Ontario, I got the sensation of a pulsating light in my left periferal vision, almost like a strobe light hypnotising my left side. I pulled the car to the edge of the highway and turned back to see what had so stangley caught my attention. I discovered this neat grove of pine trees along the highway with an open field just beyond about 10 rows of uniformly staggered pines. This is what created the strobe effect, as the low angle of the sun penetrated the tree stand and cast long shadows toward the highway. I noticed a cabin in the clearing and decided that my attention was gathered for a reason. My camera is always with me and this time I siezed the opportunity to capture what was meant to be this painting. |
