LaCloche Mountain Vista

The LaCloche Mountain range runs east-west across the north shore of Georgian Bay on Lake Huron. These mountains are made of glistening white quartzite and are a transition belt between the limestone of the Niagara escarpment and the Laurentian shield to the north. Some of the inlets off the bay are like fijords and are considered the most spectacular boating areas in the world by well travelled and seasoned boaters. This area was inhabited for at least 15,000 years by Canada's first nations and became the hub of fur trading during the period of the French voyageurs. Except for a few cottages and tourist lodges, the area is pristeen and unspoiled with thousands of islands and inlets waiting to be explored.
