Lookin' Back
A typical circa 1953 Shell service station, located at Larch and Elgin streets, Sudbury Ontario, Canada. A number of period autos create the mood in this scene, including the first of it's kind, sports car. Only 300 were built, all being white with red interior. As the action in this piece portrays, it must have been a sight to behold when the first ones appeared on the streets of North America.
I try to be as accurate with my historical detail as I am with my image detail in each piece. This often requires weeks of preparation before I begin the actual easel work. I spend many hours in book stores, the library and my own files of old magazines, books and photos, researching to the smallest detail.
