Master - A Granted Title?
By: Pasha

Not infrequently the comment is made by a girl, "He is not a Master" or in some way or another, a judgment is made by a girl that a particular person is "....not a Master."

Many will say this is perfectly proper for a girl to make a determination as to wether or not she respects him, and so to call him Master, Sir, or just by his first name. Frankly, from the greatest number of perspectives, there is not a thing wrong with this. In most D/s settings, respect is earned by the dominant, and until such time as he has earned this respect, he is "...just another wannabe dom."

There are of course other perspectives, one of which is a Gorean perspective. To the Gorean slave, wether or not she calls a man Master, is not dependant upon who HE is, but instead, upon who SHE is. In calling a man Master, she does not grant the man a title, for she has no right to grant a title, or anything else, to anyone. Instead, by calling a man Master, she reaffirms her own slavery.

Not long ago, I had a conversation with a girl who was owned at one time by a Gorean man, and found that ownership to be something not quite what she'd expected. I asked her if she thought she was a slave, and she responded immediatly in the affirmative. I then asked her if she was prepared to call every/any man Master, and she responded that in certain circumstances, she would not. The example she gave was rather extreme -

If the man were a known child molestor, she would not call the man Master - unless directed to by her owner. She told me definitively that she would not call a molestor Master because she was absolutely certain that a child molestor could not in fact BE a Master. I informed her that by not calling this man, any man, Master, she was denying her own slavery. That she had no right to grant, or take away a title, or anything else, from anyone at all, IF she were a slave. I informed her that it was her own heart, being, and substance that dictated what she should call a man. That she must indeed call every man Master, if she were truly slave! A man may be dispicable. A man may be disgusting to look upon. A man may be made of the weakest moral fiber. A man may be anything BUT a slave, and she should call a man Master. She understood completely what I was saying, but insisted she would not, could not, call a child molestor, Master.

I informed her that she was not a slave.
