Pride
By: Aria Thassa

A tribute to the men I know who walk with quiet pride -

I look outside and see glimpses of pride at its best: the stature of the old tree, so sturdy and with roots that delve deep into the earth gripping firmly as the wind blows through its branches, as storms come and go threatening its limbs and ageless life. It does not cry out or scream back or announce its presence as each passerby walks on, but its quiet presence, its pride manifested by its stature so tall and grand, silently demands your attention and awe.

At night I look up at the vastness of the sky, as it blankets the earth in darkness and infinity. It too makes no sound. Instead it sings creation as we gaze upon stars whose present image that meets our eyes is their history a thousand thousand years ago. Within that momentary glance I am captivated by the night sky's quiet pride.

The footsteps of a man who walks with pride profound are barely heard. His voice rises up only as storms beat demandingly upon his limbs, but never in want for attention. Through the stillness of his presence, his undemanding stance, his pride silently pulls your gaze toward him in the deepest respect. Whether you are a Warrior or Healer or slave, Man or woman, your eyes will notice a Man, a Friend, a Brother, whose quiet pride grips your attention with a confidence that no vociferous cry could outdo!
