| About Them | | ||||||||
Once upon a time on one saturday morn... Stu-Pot is on the job at his uncle's organ shop. But the peace and quiet is broken when Murdoc, with every intention of grabbing as much loot as possible to start his own band, drives through the shop window and into Stu-Pot's head, fracturing an eyeball. As a result of his raid, Murdoc is made to do 30,000 hours of community service and then 10 hours every week of caring for the vegetabilised Stu-Pot. But the fun's just begining. Soon, Murdoc's rotten driving skills again force life to take a different turn. While attempting a 360 doughnut spin in Nottingham's Tesco carpark, he catapults Stu-Pot through the windshield and into a curb. Stu-Pot's other eye is fractured, his mind is revived and now he stands a young, black eyed god, with hedgehog hair and a vacant stare. With his massive keyboarding skills and singing ability, Stu-Pot is then renamed '2-D' for the two dents in his head. Now a drummer is needed. A few years earlier... In New York State, a middle-class kid named Russel, is forced out of his posh private school due to his being possessed by a demon. He lies in a coma for four years, until an elaborate exorcism sets him free. Russel then joins Brooklyn High, where he falls in with a group of talented street musicians, rappers and DJs. Hip-Hop saves his soul but not for long. A random drive-by shooting kills all of his friends and as Russel lies in a state of shock, the spirits of his chums invade his body, turning Russel's eyes a spooky white and giving him amazing drumming, rapping and general hip-hop skills. Russel's folks move him to England hoping that he'll get a chance for a quieter life; wishful thinking. They never thought that Murdoc would track Russel down in a Soho Rap Record Store. Now, all the fledgling group need is a guitarist. They place an ad in the NME. The day the ad is published, a Fed-Ex'd freight container is delivered to their door. Out jumps a small Japanese girl carrying a Les Paul. She jabbers at them incomprehensibly, before launching into a riff to end all riffs, rounding it off with a hi-karate jump. The guys are speechless. Because the child knew only one word of English, "Noodle!", they dubb her, well, Noodle. And Gorillaz are born... BACK |
